{February 12, 2007}   Couldn’t look you in the eye

When you were here before
Couldnt look you in the eye
Youre just like an angel
Your skin makes me cry
You float like a feather
In a beautiful world
And I wish I was special
Youre so fuckin special

But Im a creep, Im a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
I dont belong here.

I dont care if it hurts
I want to have control
I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul
I want you to notice
When Im not around
Youre so fuckin special
I wish I was special

But Im a creep, Im a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
I dont belong here.

Shes running out again,
Shes running out
Shes run run run running out…

Whatever makes you happy
Whatever you want
Youre so fuckin special
I wish I was special…

But Im a creep, Im a weirdo,
What the hell am I doing here?
I dont belong here.
I dont belong here.

{October 2, 2006}   Stay

You say I only hear what I want to.
You say I talk so all the time so.
And I thought what I felt was simple,
and I thought that I don’t belong,
and now that I am leaving,
now I know that I did something wrong ’cause I missed you.
Yeah yeah, I missed you.
And you say I only hear what I want to:
I don’t listen hard,
don’t pay attention to the distance that you’re running
to anyone, anywhere,
I don’t understand if you really care,
I’m only hearing negative: no, no, no.
So I turned the radio on, I turned the radio up,
and this woman was singing my song:
lover’s in love, and the other’s run away,
lover is crying ’cause the other won’t stay.
Some of us hover when we weep for the other who was
dying since the day they were born.
Well, well, this is not that;
I think that I’m throwing, but I’m thrown.
And I thought I’d live forever, but now I’m not so sure.
You try to tell me that I’m clever,
but that won’t take me anyhow, or anywhere with you.
You said that I was naive,
and I thought that I was strong.
I thought, “hey, I can leave, I can leave.”
Oh, but now I know that I was wrong, ’cause I missed you.
Yeah, I miss you.
You said, “I caught you ’cause I want you and one day I’ll let you go.”
You try to give away a keeper, or keep me ’cause you know you’re just
scared to lose.
And you say, “Stay.”
And you say I only hear what I want to.

I went to see the Miami Vice today. It was rather entertaining and i kind of like this song.

{September 26, 2006}   zannnie’s daily morning routine:

8am alarm clock rings

8-8:30am – at every 5mins interval, she presses on the snooze and goes back ‘half-sleep’

8:31am -wakes up finally, hair touseled:p

8:32am -folds her blanket, tidies her bed (bedsheet):) she has a ’super-neat’ aunt
and she puts in her 101%best in keeping UP TO STANDARD:)

8:35am -enters the toilet, brushes her teeth, stare in the mirror for about 20seconds:D, thinking about the new day:)

8:40am -washes her face with LOREAL anti-aging facial foam:p

8:43am -wipes her face dry with towel

8:44am -get changed, sometimes makeup (about 10mins) if her ‘gummy-nose’(as what Zsolt likes to call it) is not too sensitive on that day. So if it is sneezing, time will be taken to quickly reach for some tissue papers to ‘blow her gummy-nose’

8:50am – get ready her stuffs in her handbag

8:51am – makes sure mobile phone is with minimum two ‘bars’ of battery

8:52am – cleans her water bottle (as she brings with her about 600ml of WATER) Singapore is very hot most of the time, u know? summer throughout the year!

8:55am – wears her shoes, takes out her keys and locks the door behind her

{September 24, 2006}   IJ

the following paragraph about convent schoolgirls appeared in the last sunday times (sept 17):

IJ Girls

IJ is short for CHIJ, or Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus, a school founded in Victoria Street by Catholic nuns and priests. There are now 13 secondary schools and primary schools in the family.

“IJ girls” is a generalisation for girls who study in CHIJ schools and who like to hem their school uniforms real short, wear their belts real low on their hips, and are allegedly easy when it comes to the opposite sex.

But bad rep aside, they are also known for being smart, creative and well-spoken, at least going by how alumni include actresses Andrea de Cruz and Sharon Au, singer Tanya Chua, model Charmaine Harn and Campus Superstar finalist Teresa Tseng.

I think these writings stirred up too much these days when such generalisations made to all the girls and women who were ex school girls of this school

{September 20, 2006}   Strange things happened

I had been thinking about a long trip. And almost everyday we had been talking about it.

Even unnoticingly, I picked up things related to the destination of my trip. Today I knew I won’t be talking about it. It is a Wednesday. And my mind is unconciously picking up a magazine related to the destination.

I never looked at chinese magazines in the library. But today it was strange. I dunno what draws me to that chinese rack and there was this magazine in chinese title ‘TRAVEL EXPERT’. Very obviously, from the big font, you can tell it a magazine that circulates in China. Hence for chinese audience. But this being an August 2006 issue was placed on the rack and i jus picked it up during my 1 hour break.

First I still didn’t noticed what a coincidence it was. I saw the destination. In my mind, i said ‘hey, why amongst so many other titles did i picked this one :) ” And of course, it only wrote that it is a FEATURE DESTINATION…i thot it would only be a few pages cos that’s usually what ‘FEATURE’ means in our magazines in Singapore. So I picked up my camera and started capturing the intial few pages as I wanted to show Zsolt sharing with him my experience about this strange occurance today. Then as i flipped the pages, i realised there is more and more about the place……..
So no, it was of almost half the magazine with all the various towns and suburbs of this beautiful city that I am heading.

Finally I decided to just borrow the magazine and have a more detailed read instead :D Image0013

{September 9, 2006}   Get yourself together:)

It was a SUCCESS!!! wow, this is the first time I try making my own YOGHURT and it was a wonderful experience!!

I made my own Yoghurt today! *wink and a proud SMILE across my face:)

And the ingredients are so simple:-

1.Milk (cow’s milk-full cream)

2.Yoghurt starter : Pauls Original Yoghurt

What you need:-

Cup for blending yoghurt

A place to leave yoghurt undisturbed.

That’s it.

The original home-made yoghurt is really nice. A smooth and fresh yoghurt, and I added fresh fruits such as grapes and some raisins…hmm…yummy:p slurp… And do you know? There are lots of health benefits just simply YOGHURT as part of your diet:)?

Research shows yoghurt strengthens and stabilizes the immune system.

The lactobacillus in yoghurt feeds the intestines, maximizes nutrients you can absorb into your body, insures the digestive system stays healthy, and stabilizes the immune system.

“Yoghurt has strong medicinal properties, including the ability to stimulate the immune system and kill bad “bugs” or bacteria in the human gut. …research at the University of California at Davis showed that eating live-culture yoghurt was associated with higher-than-average levels of gamma interferon, a key component of the body’s immune system.” The secret to good yoghurt is that it contains live cultures, there are four major strains of bacteria to look for: L. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, S. thermophilus, and bifidobacteria.

{August 20, 2006}   Always wonder…

What to do if it is sooooooo cold?
Will it be gloomy like sleepless in the seattle?
Will everyone miss the thai spicy Tom Yum Soup?
Am I naughty or nice?
Will Santa fill my sock?

The more I listen to this song, the more I find it nice and soothing,,,,,,

I am supposed to have dinner with my old classmate, Ching Sian cos it is my birthday today. But after I’ve left home to meet her on the way, I received a phone call from her telling me that she is having stomache flu:( Obviously we can’t have the Japanese Ramen:( I asked her to go home, and I went for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ as one of my presents was a movie pass:) from Elizabeth.

My birthday is filled with many many SMSes, wishing me ‘happy birthday’ ‘good health’ ‘happiness’ ‘joy’ this year..and it’s wonderful receiving ‘Happy Birthday’ sang by mr special :) telling me it seemed just my ‘18th’ birthday as I don’t looked my age, and asking me ‘Who is celebrating her 18th Birthday today?”

Nighypirates1‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ was a very entertaining movie besides featuring Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. Both handsome guys I like:) and it was certainly a treat for my birthday:p  Orlando Bloom’s costume is a very interesting one…I really love that ‘PAPRIKA’ moment, it was very very funny!!!:D  The caribbean with that wonderful images of sand, waters…wonderful wide space…and amazing underwater creatures and sea phantoms + Davy Jones…wonderful CG

And I’ve always daydreamed of myself in that kind of dresses like what the lead actress ‘Elizabeth Swann’ was wearing in the opening scene, the one that first set her in the scenes was a beautiful dress or rather a gown. And my dream of myself in that kind of dress was trying to run and pulling that dress up to prevent its long length tangling to my legs trying to move fast:p But considering such a kind of weather we have here in Singapore,it’s almost impossible:) so naturally I woke up from my ‘day dream’ myself seeing that it’s almost impractical – simply ‘wrong climate’.

I remembered in my teens (like about 16) with Chrstopher Yang we were watching this movie called ‘LITTLE WOMEN’ which was set in about the Post-Civil War era (1865–1917). Little Women’s main cast being Winona Ryder as Josephine ‘Jo’ March had somehow left such a deep impression. The Story.
It was most likely becos of their costume:) and everytime whether or not these kind of dresses appear, it would seems to be they belong to almost the same era. Now it is clearer that they are not cos the ones that i really like most is of the renaissance period. During the era known by this name, Europe emerged from the economic stagnation of the Middle Ages and experienced a time of financial growth. Also, and perhaps most importantly, the Renaissance was an age in which artistic, social, scientific, and political thought turned in new directions.

In that kind of setting of Pirates of the Caribbean, contrasting Elizabeth (Keira Knightley ) in that gown was simply mermerizing… I am NOT a girl (in my childhood) who plays with DOLLS, neither am I into wearing long dresses (cos i’m a suntanning sunshine craze) but this gown made me…and i am beginning to dream again…..

This is Redang Island. I missed that place very much now. I still remember my first snorkling experience was at the Marine Park here. And I was tasked to hold the ‘bread’ so all the beautiful multi coloured fishes swam towards ME!! and that feeling is reaaaaallly overwhelming!

The sea water is soooo salty that once it gets into your eyes, you’ll not be able to open them:p BUT no matter what, I still love this place very much!! The sand, the sea and the sun – the most beautiful combination of nature!

I found a very good body butter the day before and it was amazingly good. It’s like moisturiser for the body skin, but alot more RICHER(Lg_bodybutter_passionfruitThe only oil or lotion that i use was suntan lotion:D and it was the fragrance of the natural FRUITS that drew me to buy these BODY BUTTERS. Also with a good cause:-

The campaign is:-

For centuries the women of Ghana have used cocoa butter to moisturize and cool their skin in the African heat. Since 1995, The Body Shop has been buying cocoa beans from the Kuapa Kokoo company in Ghana, a fair trade co-operative with over 30,000 small-scale farmers. The money made by the co-operative enables the development of community projects such as schools and village wells in addition to providing the farmers with income to support their families.

Besides it Is an excellent moisturizer that melts at body temperature, leaving the skin feeling soft and silky smooth. Almond oil is excellent, it provides essential fatty acids that help to repair the skin’s moisture barrier, thus helping to restore moisture, smoothness and suppleness.

Pd_bodybutter_mango

I like the idea that it helps them to build more schools and village wells…

Today a student told me about a SUPER-Negative teacher she encountered in her school. It was Tamil lesson in school for her and this teacher went screaming and yelping and yelling calling them ‘dogs’ ’sand in the brain’ ’soil in the brains’ etc. The worst was dragging in her family like her parents brought them up in such a manner and saying them being such ‘low quality’ students with ‘NO FUTURE!!’ ahead:`(

It’s very sad.

Here I am reinforcing super-POSITIVE energies into my students, there the NEGATIVITIES by that lousy school teacher. My style is encouragement, positive thoughts telling my students to bear in mind to tell themselves ‘I CAN DO IT’, ‘I CAN SOLVE IT’ whenever they encounter a problem in their school work. I am a believer of Positivity. I dislike (no! I HATE, i should say i hate) these negative people :( They are channeling such NEGATIVE energies to whoever they meet. Just like the A.M.D <I’ve told the ’story’ before. THE very moment these KIND of people opened their mouth, you can SENSE it straight away, right away that NOTHING GOOD COMES OFF….:(

So for that, I patiently waited for her to AIR out her ‘grievances’ about what she got from THAT teacher and I also comforted her that MAYBE this teacher had a bad experience and encountered an(/some) incorrigible student(s) before so that explains why she became so ABUSIVE in her language. It made this young girl feel much better (somehow) cos the lesson continued.

The warrior of light has learned that God uses solitude to teach us how to live with other people.

He uses rage to showus the infinite value of peace.
He uses boredom to underline the importance of adventure and spontaneity.

God uses silence to teach us to use words responsibly.
He uses tiredness so tha twe can understand the value of waking up.
He uses illness to underline the blessing of good health.

God uses fire to teach us about water.
He uses earth so that we can understand the value of air.
He uses death to show us the importance of life.

If the strings of an instrument are always taut, they go out of tune.

Warriors who spend all their time training lose their spontaneity in battle. Horses that are always jumping fences end up breaking a leg. Bows that are bent all day no longer shoot arrow with the same force.

That is why, even if he is not in the mood, the warrior of light tries to enjoy the small everyday things of life.

The warrior of light listens to Lao Tzu when he says that we should let go of the idea of days and hours in order to pay more attention to the moment.

Only in this way can the warrior resolve certain problems before they occur; by focusing on the small things, he manages to avoid larger calamities.

But thinking about the small things is not the same as thinking small.
Over-anxiety ultimately banishes every trace of joy from life.

The warrior knows that a great dream is made up of many different things, just as the light from the sun is the sum of its millions of rays.

I’ve experimented with the mp3 on jeff’s photo site and it was a SUCCESS!! Now it’s up and running with a Gallery (*PROUD expression on my face*+*wink*!) and a flash intro to his professionally done photography PLUS the music loop. The background loop has been bugging me for quite some time…and today i finally tried with various processes and got the result i’ve been looking for…

Then my question about blogging and this thing about entrepreneurial blogging…hmmm…what do you think? Is it possible? My first reaction was ”Maybe yes” And at the same moment, it prompts me to think ‘HOW?’ and yes! the question is how to make money online with just blogging?

So I found this interesting voted THIRD place as the Best! site about ”Making money online by blogging" site. This is the link  and my search begins…This post shall be continue…becos I am sure many of us here are also wondering and CURIOUS like me to know the various possibilities.

Actually I saw this clip first not becos of the original singer but because of a funny spoof video of that fat guy and it’s very funny. I’ve also included here, a cuteeee little girl dancing to the tune of Shakira’s Hips Don’t Lie and you can see how she spins and spins….so lovely:)

{June 27, 2006}   Wanna S C R A T C H ?

What’s wrong with women who are 36?

1. Is it that she maybe too old to give birth? or
2. You might think she will not be passionate enough to love you enough? or
3. Women who are younger are better partners?

This is crzy. Some people set an age limit for friends they are looking for. I was thinking maybe becos they felt those who are way too old may not fit the ‘bill’. But what is this ‘bill’ or ’standard’ ? is it generation gap, perhaps and maybe that was what’s on the guy’s mind. But I thot most guys like women who are slightly older than them, okay, did i say ’slightly’. Now, slightly would mean not much, like 2-5 years is acceptable. Then how about 6-9 years gap, oh, is that too wide? Generation Gap? Communication problem? hmm….maybe this guy is thinking a lot more than …juz friends….

{June 25, 2006}   Cost of Living in Singapore

I realised we discussed this many times and each time, Singapore’s cost of living is always on the high side compared with most places.

Just talk about basic rental on sharing basis is USD455 (monthly), of course this refers to a good area where it is more convenient to go to work etc.  But how about other basic things like food and drinks?  Wow to my surprise when i see the figures comparing to the other countries like our malaysia neighbour, our cost is like DOUBLE!! Say coffee, is USD 3.18 that’s really on the high side. And eggs, say large ones is USD2.01 for twelve large ones…Even our phone calling out rates are expensive…

Costofliving

{June 23, 2006}   Interesting words

It’s a sobering thought:-

It is much easier and much more fun to
play seductively with men and excite them to the pursuit. It is
much harder … but more real … to let men see the honest, genuine
YOU beneath your exterior. Rejection hurts much more when a man
has seen who you truly are than when he’s only rejected your “game
face.”

Nevertheless, if what you want is TRUE LOVE, playing it real is the
only option you can afford to take.

Lately, I’ve been reading about this site call ”Travelpod” and I’ve discovered how beautiful are some photographs taken by the travellers. This lady really left a very deep impression (i’m just beginning, but i already like her adventure). She says this ”Wandering around the world to see what I can find. Aimlessly from place to place with no real plan in mind.” Wow, so cool! And  the story behind these words was that she felt:

”To tell you the truth, I have no idea what I am doing
or where I am going. I won’t even try to guess a
plan.
It seems everytime I try to plan some thing, things
change. So I will just go…and see where it takes me.”

She’s tired of the ratrace and resigned. Sometimes life can be so hard on people. But I think we must know when to put a stop to the nonsense that we shouldn’t take, particularly from neverending work. Saying these, I am also not a lazy person. Just that, it hurts me to see people being pushed to the brim and having a burnt out. I have experienced this ‘burnt out’ feeling before. Twice.

I told myself to work, these days to work hard but not pushed myself to work like how i used to work last time in my younger days. My friends around me always tell me that ”I’m a workaholic” – Maggie, Ruyi…….all of them, they all felt i’ve worked too hard:(

Now I’ve learnt to slow things down a bit for myself. I’m just glad I can work with children and being able to SMILE is very important. I realised how amazing to see the curious smiles on their little faces when a little new piece of information in the form of knowledge is transferred to their SPONGEY BRAINS…(this is a stolen term as my first ‘boss’ in the japanese mnc always said i’m one  SPONGE, absorbing as much as I can in learning all the Distributed Control System terminologies, project management skills, public relations and human relations).

By the way, her handle in TRAVELPOD is ‘whereshegoes’ and she can be found with 1000 wonderful smiley photos (i spotted one beautiful sunset of Athens) This is  the link to WHERESHEGOES’:D

The ending due to the limitations on travelpod, she did post a FAQ which was interesting telling how she managed to save enough money to travel around the world like this;) and i find that rather inspiring too…(her 2005 to recent link)

Now I PREFER looking at this travelpod or watching youtube which comes with travel places tags and you can pick and choose exactly where you’d like to go TO watching National Geographic Channel…becos’ it’s so much closer to the heart to see works by people you can write to than the professional angles by NGC DOP (meaning National Geographic Channel’s DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY) who achieved those 5second moments by waiting fifteen hours:p

{June 21, 2006}   Wow wooooooo….!

Elena inspired me to look at the Giza Pyramid and places that are interesting in Egypt. I imagined she gets to taste the exotic food in egypt as well as bellydancing….

I found a cute little girl bellydancing, watch this:-

The next video is of Rachel Brice who is such a professional and she’s really good…nice tatoo..ouch ohh it’s at your soft parts of your body…:)

I found this amazing response of watching bellydancing. See the third video and try answer my following question
Did you noticed you watch the bigger belly than the flat belly?hmm, yes, that’s what i was looking at too…As much as i would love a flat abs and trimmed belly, in bellydancing, it’s having a fleshy belly that makes a difference than the normal preference. Seems I maybe qualified to go and learn basic bellydancing, just for fun:p

This is an article i read today, about nicotine addiction. I dun really like smokers. My reason is more about their personal will power being a person. Someone says he can quit if I’m his wife or girlfriend. I’m not sure and I personally dun believe this statement.

Ms Non-smoker once told me her ex-boyfriend promised to quit smoking too. But she was really nice telling him that she didn’t expect him to do so overnight. Given time, he to slowly quit it and being slowly but surely.

I am allegic to the dust. Small particles as small as perfume that can diffused in the air. So it means not even smoke from smokers. I will control myself to NOT sneeze as best as i could. But given an opportunity, I wish to put up this link as a source of self-help, whoever out there only if you seriously consider the desire to quit.

{June 15, 2006}   How to be popular:)hahaha

Here’s something rather funny:) Watch it

Two weeks past since the last meeting. You can’t imagine this is what that happened this morning at 10am. This incorrigible man who talks nothing but full of shits and bullshits and utters a whole lot of nonsense, has been given a piece of my mind straight after the 30th minute.

Infact, I was there like 30mins earlier as i reach there at 9:31am. I even have time to calm myself down after that long journey to ”that faraway office+factory” (which was so super-far for me!!) I didn’t complaint too much. Somehow or rather I had a very bad feeling even last night that I might be showing THE OTHER SIDE OF ME today. Not becos it’s a Monday, I dun have this problem of ‘monday blues’ as I always start the day of the week with BIG SMILES and wide open arms…looking forward to a wonderful week ahead. However, today is different:(

I presented the four adobe pdf files: first i start with the sales kit, then CD design, then the production specs, finally website. I presented twice, the first was to the Mr France and he was a soft spoken man with a very interesting accent (:p) I have no problems with his feedback at all and he can be a very frank person and i kind of like him being that:) When I asked him about this last concept that we are going to proposed, he told me that he kind of like this COLOR OF LIFE concept over the others which previously Rach has proposed. He even agrees with BRIGHT smile and in his hazel brown eyes, I knew he likes the idea particularly the partnership puzzle part.

The latecomer arrived. He was the Managing Director and this is the INCORRIGIBLE man I mentioned earlier in my first paragraph:( You can’t imagine this, I presented the concept now the second time, and this time, he was EYEING on the concept with of ice-cream scoops with an EVIL smile! This was how he started:-

Anal Managing Director abbreviated as A.M.D  of ABC company.

A.M.D said: Now show me about the ice-cream man
(he didn’t even say ‘please’:(!)

I said: (Scrolling my mouse cursor to the left, clicked on PAGES and cursor placed at the page with the man with the ice-cream)

Dsc05535_1

::caution:: You are about to hear how ”nasty” I can be, that is, ‘THE OTHER SIDE OF ME”.
I ”gave it” to him after the 30th minute [''it'' means 'a piece of my mind!']

a.m.d. asked: so what is it about this ice cream that you presented.

i said: ”The various scoops shows the variety of printing productions possibilities/strengths that your company can provide eg spot uv varnish, laminating gloss finishing,…”

(I listed a few examples even to show him the hot foiled refraction effect that is possible for this color of life concept proposal.)

Then the a.m.d begins: ”I think firstly this ice-cream, to me is very messy, SEE, see, see how the ice-cream is shown?”

”it’s like toppling down!”

”And first when you first walked into our company you should know that we are a chinese company and traditionally we cannot accept this.”

”And THE IDEA of ice-cream is messy.”

”BUT…” (<<see he goes again) if you show like A TABLE, solid table with four legs and on the table you show plates and cups and different cuisine like SUSHI AND CURRY!!! (<<watch this)…yes, and show all these different kinds with chopsticks and bowls and forks and spoons….blar blar blar”

[ok, ok ok now i cannot take it anymore! my blood is starting to boil...:(]

And what I did was, I told him first (and patiently) it doesn’t fit into this ‘color of life’ concept proposal and what he said is heard, but we dun think it shows very well what his company is seriously into (ie printing business).

Then he wants to continue and try to IRRITATE me further for the second time

a.m.d said:” I didn’t see this ice cream man concept the other time..?”
(head turned to look at Mr France)

Mr France: Oh, I’m afraid they did (pointing to the pages of this ice-cream man without the CityScape of Singapore as it was an added point from the last meeting)

a.m.d said: ”oh, is it? oh, then i didn’t see it clearly….er….i thought it was not in the previous proposal.”
(saying this, he wasn’t even apologetic but felt he should continue..)

i said: ”What we have counter-proposed here is closely linked to the feedback which you have given in the past few meetings which you and Rach+Mr France had and even with me in the last two weeks ago."

a.m.d (trying to take back his words, and giving a STUPID face says):
”what i mean is that this ice-cream is going to topple at the way it was stacked…”

I knew he’s about to ”begin”, I take a quick glance at the right corner of my iBook and theclock reads 10:25am…)

i said: Looking at this juncture, I think we wouldn’t want to pursue any further cos it’s the creative direction being proposed and even the other time you didn’t reject it (‘it’ refers to the ice-cream scoops.)”

i said: ”Because if this is a concept for you, as the client, and you are feeling the concepts are not something you like, i think we will just leave it here as it and we wouldn’t want to take anymore of your time, also we are also not pushing you to take this and having this that’s it. From the last time as you can see we even took down all the feedback(and comments) and reflected the ’soft’ elements which you’ve hoped to see…”

”and this time around, on our side, we felt since it is a subjective matter, we will not wanna carry this on but …”

a.m.d: (cuts in and says) ”oh dun misunderstand what i mean, cos we felt we kind of like it but this….and internally we even thought that this design…blar..blar..blar”

And he goes round ‘his speech’ the second time.

my turn to say something and
i said: About sushi+curry

(can you imagine how sucky it tastes? in my mind, oh shit how it’s tastes in combination ….>>like VOMITTTT!?)

”erm…is a ””VERY”’ ”CREATIVE” idea but i think it still don’t fit into the proposed concept too well, but well since you are the Client, you have every right to reject it and tell us what you like to see, but we are giving it a miss this time.”(in my mind, it is the opposite of ‘creative’, it was infact the worst nonsense i’ve ever heard! so i was sort of forcing myself to tell him that he’s in anyway CREATIVE)

(Then i began to put my lappy into the lappycase and my body language is obvious that i wanna leave this room immediately cos I JUST CANNOT STAND HIS STUPIDITY and nonsense crap!!!!!!!!)

And by this time i made him really ANGRY now cos he knows i’m not going to listen to ANYMORE of his bullshits!!

I told him we are giving it a missed one last time and i reminded him to not take it too personal about the ice-cream man (which he felt it refers to him) cos it was really not anything like that. And  we are not going to pursue it further going rounds and in CIRCLES of confusion.

I have been a LITTLE more aggresive (as the Mr France reflected) maybe he meant ALOT for this Anal Boss to take. I prefer to end it as it. It’s better than i lose more (time) later and he carries on like this during this time to the point of printing [which it will be a scenario that i cannot further imagine:(]

The followup like writing them a memorandum to say we are not doing this anymore to close it (formally) has been done.

I feel so lousy and angry cos it wasn’t nice feeling at all SHOOTING HIS BRAINS OFF like this.
i can’t say ‘yes’ to these nonsense shits!!! it’s overly crap! Even 7 year olds can quote better examples than these SUSHI+C U R R Y combi and tables with four legs and forks and chopsticks moo…mooo…moooo…

So you see in this example, and that’s the OTHER side of me and to be honest, i can’t stand this kind of stupid shit.     I  C A N ‘ T   S T A N D   P  E  O  P  L  E   O F   T H E S E

B  E  H  A  V  I  O  U  R ! ! ! !

How would you handle if u are in my spot?

And frankly speaking, this process can be a very nice and interesting exchange/phase provided if the other party is on the same page. My stand in this particular example was, i wanna STOP right from the first example of nonsense and not having to tell him all the rest of the possible nonsensical examples to come forth from him since we have heard from him the last 2 full hours in that previous meeting (see part one, click here), cos i’m absolutely sure he WILL be feeling even more worst than this – if i were to tell him so

Now i need to cool myself down with a SUPER-COLD shower and forget
about this matter (if possible) as best as i could, i’ must try:|

[POST-MEETING: Mr France called to say that  a.m.d  was kind of rude and he apologized on his behalf, he offers to buy a dinner for the whole trouble (as we've given these as well as previous proposals and our most precious time invested) in a way to cool down this whole matter]

So you see? Isn’t it obvious that something is quite wrong about this a.m.d.’s behaviour?

What I’m saying is WE ARE NOT S L A V E S NEITHER ARE WE  B E G G E R S!

There must have been an angel by my side
Something heavenly led me to you
Look at the sky
Its the colour of love
There must have been an angel by my side
Something heavenly came down from above
He led me to you
He led me to you

He built a bridge to your heart
All the way
How many tons of love inside
I cant say

When I was led to you
I knew you were the one for me
I swear the whole world could feel my heartbeat
When I lay eyes on you
Ay ay ay
You wrapped me up in
The colour of love

You gave me the kiss of life
Kiss of life
You gave me the kiss thats like
The kiss of life

Wasnt it clear from the start
Look the sky is full of love
Yeah the sky is full of love

He built a bridge to your heart
All the way
How many tons of love inside
I cant say

You gave me the kiss of life
Kiss of life

I’m not a TV addict, firstly I dun like to watch the programmes on our local TV channels. The contents are simply boring, not creative, many times they COPY:( I feel it stifled our future CHILDREN’s minds. I only prefer the cartoons created by this animation director Hayao Miyazaki. The other two of my favourite by him are Howl’s Moving Castle and Spirited Away. Watch it and you’ll see what I mean…

Actually I like this song when I first heard it. Zsolt did a video with the clips he took while he was driving back from his sister’s village. And until today, that video is still one of my favourite. Not sure if it’s because of his choice of music, but I think it was surprisingly good with the effects naturally by his older mobile. It’s called underwater love by smoke city. Today, I chanced on the TVC of this LEVI’S ad entitled: MERMAIDS, so it was this funny. In Singapore, we only get to see the adapted version, with just the male model in the Levi’s jeans coming out of the waters.

Have you met anyone who cannot communicate? Now this word ‘communicate’ is a BIG word! Yes, it is also how important communication is in this era for just being a person.

Communication means of sending and receiving the correct information. It is having the ability to express your ideas, you main message within those words. This is essentially important for anyone you work with, to understand you better and render the necessary support services for you and your company. The direct impact is demonstated in the following example….

I was proposing a CONCEPT and met a managing director who hold this position for 28 years. Basically this man couldn’t express himself at all. First he went one BIG CIRCLE but didn’t manage to express clearly what he really needed for his company’s new Identity design. See how this person speaks:

‘’show photos of SINGAPORE”….”I know of some companies they show CITYSCAPES of Singapore, you can also go to take some pictures of our CHINATOWN” ”this cultural aspect would represent our business ethics and stability and generate a higher interest to send their printing work to Singapore”

”Why award us the job, WHY CHOOSE SINGAPORE? cos we also have a Malaysia branch and you could get the price of 3 stars WITH the SERVICE and QUALITY prints of 5 stars!”

Wow, imagine that! ”BUT…” (wait, now you see, this is the most TRICKY word he could ever used!) ”…tell this message very subtly. Not too modern, use SUBTLE way to message this across, not too LOUD. >>I don’t know how are you going to put the two parts of both ‘HARD’ and ‘SOFT” together?”<<

What do you think he is trying to say all in all? DO IT LIKE THIS BUT DON’T DO IT.
In short, is pls do it but don’t do (it)? Can you believe a 2hour long discussion ending with this conclusion in your mind?

So how important is being about to communicate well? What more of a person in directorial position.

p.s. even he agrees he speaks the langauge called ‘CONFUSION’ (see his last statement in >> <<)

{May 30, 2006}   Sprained my ankle

Oh, this was a bad day for me…i sprained my right ankle. It’s swollen:( but I can still walk abit to buy Tiger Balm Medicated plaster from Watsons’ to reduce the swelling. I’ve injured my right ankle before. There was a hairline bone fracture. That’s why I am always careful, by not roller blading, or even wearing heels that are way too high…

I hope the swelling will go down by tomorrow, but my past experiences tell me that tomorrow will be more painful cos that’s when the blue-black will start to appear and the stiffness makes it even less flexible to walk like normal. Sigh…i can’t go jogging for the next one or two weeks…I hope i can go swimming though:)

An itch on my left forearm.

I scratched it.

Reached my right hand down in the darkness, fingernails scrabbling again, longer this time, feeling greater relief, greater irritation knowing as soon as I stopped the flurry, the itch would twang back.

Monday morning, after an unsettled night of waking up, dreaming, waking up, I pulled off my blanket, looked at my left forearm. A red bump grew on that spot where the red ant bit (it is the biggest, most visible)

I got these three bites (yes, now there are a total of not one, but THREE bites!) at Central Library where I was having a discussion with Hendra and Rachel last Sunday. It was those plants that houses these red ants cos they came crawling in one FULL LINE from the plants surrounding the HAN’s eating area, that place where you see a lot of light pastel blue color chairs.
I was careless:(. Cos i didn’t expect the red ants to be so CRUEL, leaving such venom on my left forearm when what I did was I had rested my arms on left side, where the whole colony of red ants were busily MOVING IN ONE STRAIGHT line.

These bites didn’t show up on that very day. I saw the first one manifesting itself only on Monday. The second and third only show up on Wednesday. You know what is the most ecstatic? It is to scratch. The scratching, I believe, will elevate me to a round world where all that exists are fingernails.

The itch produced by a fire ant bite is unbelievable. Way beyond mosquito. Each mean bite wiggles down through the epidermis, rooting along the electrical path, the very snap and tingle, of nerve endings.

I was chatting online (as usual) but every single thought distracted by the constant yes/no decisions of to scratch or not to scratch.

Because once you do scratch a bump, although there’s that temporary relief, that pure physical pleasure that bores right down to the bone, as soon as you remove your fingernails, the itch rises up again, a red tendril sprouting from your bite across the air of the room, spiraling atop the opposite-wall stereo speakers, until continuing to ignore the maddening elongation of each itch is UNBEARABLE.

But ignore it I did, dousing my arms with an over-the-counter topical treatment, with its cool, mentholated, something call ”double prawn herbal oil’ until I smelled like a WALKING CHINESE MEDICINE HALL. Even so, there were many inadvertent instances of “accidental scratching”. I tried to ‘’stop/control” myself from scatching it by sticking two plasters, one for that big damn itchy bite, the other for two other smaller ones.

But today as I went swimming, those two waterproof plasters are now the TANNLINES that appeared a little like a FASHION STATEMENT:p (, *eyes rolled up* when I hear that girl who told me. Its crzy!)

So in case you see someone walking towards you, her tanned skin arm with two lighter ‘PLASTER MARKINGS”, that’s me…

What’s strange too about these bites is that it’s sometimes difficult to locate the source of each itch. Each a little crater radiating misery, but although I would experiment with scratching each small volcano, the specific itch I was trying to eradicate, would remain radiating in my flesh between the red bites, as though independent of an on/off switch.

Upon writing this, I read this:

All you have to do is expose the affected area to hot water. For example, if you have fire ant bites on your forearm, turn on the tap until the water is as hot as you can reasonably stand, then hold your forearm under the hot water, letting the water play over the bites.

The effect is immediate. You’ll stop itching. In fact, if your bites or rash extend over a large enough portion of your skin, you might even experience a physically pleasurable, knee-bending effect.

After a few hours, the itch is likely to return, in which case you should repeat the treatment. Keep repeating until there is no more itch. Do not scratch yourself at all during this time (if you feel the need to scratch, expose that area to hot water. If you’re at a location where taking a shower is not practical, for example at work, run hot water over a paper towel, and press that against the itch).

Why does this cure work?

The itching is caused by histamine produced by the insect bite. Exposing the affected area to hot water draws the histamine to the surface of the skin, where they are washed away.

This treatment is much more effective than any ointment, prescription or over-the-counter.

Final piece of advice: Use hot water, not lukewarm water, but not water so hot you’ll be scalded. I don’t want anything bad to happen to my readers.

Did i tell you that my christmas present was lost in transit? Oh, I think I didn’t mentioned. Cos I didn’t even tell Andrew that it was lost until early May this year. Yes, I was very DISAPPOINTED as during that time like in january, february, …then march, then april…I realised it IS REALLY LOST….

When I told Andrew in the first week of May that ‘i didn’t received your christmas present to me:(” he said he thot i received it but i didn’t like it. But it wasn’t so. I LIKE IT VERY VERY VERY much!! Cos he got me the games that i had been yearning to get for myself for a long time. As i’m on macintosh, there’s very limited mac games available (even if you were to do a search online you can see how many thousands of PC games there are).

I used to be using a PC laptop, an IBM. It’s my ‘beloved’ until it crashed many times becos of some popular virus sent together with email attachments and I was REALLY AN INNOCENT PARTY!! On my birthday last year, and yes, it was really my BIRTHDAY!! IT CRASHED. I couldn’t sleep the following day, and i fell sick. I was pacing back and forth at home, lie down, and walk to the kitchen, open the fridge, didn’t get anything, not even a drink, then walk back to my bed,jus lie down, facing the ceiling. I decided. I said to myself i can’t stand my time without my laptop! NO WAY….

The following day on 15th August, I got my iBook G4 (on instalment plan, this means i got to pay every month then it truly belongs to me after the 12th month). Yes, it’s a lovely, white lappy:) And since then, no more games for me, not even games which i can play with my online buddies that are common (as they needed the PC to run on it:(

But now it’s a new chapter, cos I think I’m really thankful. THANK YOU ANDREW!! Thank you very very much for these lovely gifts from Wisconsin, USA…i really didn’t expected this wonderful ‘xmas gifts’ that came in SPRING….both are really wonderful games – THE SIMS and SIMS 2.

So ‘THEY’ finally arrived. I even got a bunny from that animation Wallace & Gromit: Curse of The Were-Rabbit (http://www.wandg.com/) and it was adorable! Andrew has always love bunnies. He’s got FIVE!!! bunnies at home and they’re all his favourite.

With the games, I realised also how much it will cost him. The freight cost itself from USA Wisconsin to Singapore is already US22.70 (that is like S$35.68). And since he send me two EXACT sets of the same gifts, that would be about US50 jus on freight cost alone, this is excluding the cost of the complete collection for THE SIMS 1 on DVD ROM and the other a new realeased SIM 2 mac version:)

So, I am now near to being addicted to my favourite games. I had been really happy since the gifts arrived…

quite unusual of me. but this music is something interesting:) Faint….!

I am a little bit of loneliness a little bit of disregard
Handful of complaints but I can’t help the fact that everybody can see
these scars
I am what I want you to want what I want you to feel
But it’s like no matter what I do, I can’t convince you, to just believe
this is real
So I let go, watching you, turn your back like you always do
Face away and pretend that I’m not
But I’ll be here cause you want what I’ve got

(I can’t feel the way I did before)
(Don’t turn your back on me)
(I won’t be ignored)
(Time won’t heal this damage anymore)
(Don’t turn your back on me)
(I won’t be ignored)

I am a little bit insecure a little unconfident
Cause you don’t understand I do what I can but sometimes I don’t make
sense
I say what you never wanna say but I’ve never had a doubt
It’s like no matter what I do I can’t convince you for once just to hear
me out
So I let go watching you turn your back like you always do
Face away and pretend that I’m not
But I’ll be here ’cause you’re all that I’ve got

(I can’t feel the way I did before)
(Don’t turn your back on me)
(I won’t be ignored)
(Time won’t heal this damage anymore)
(Don’t turn your back on me)
(I won’t be ignored)

(Now)
(Hear me out now)
(You’re gonna listen to me, like it or not)
(Right now)
(Hear me out now)
(You’re gonna listen to me, like it or not)
(Right now)

(I can’t feel the way I did before)
(Don’t turn your back on me)
(I won’t be ignored)

(I can’t feel the way I did before)
(Don’t turn your back on me)
(I won’t be ignored)
(Time won’t heal this damage anymore)
(Don’t turn your back on me)
(I won’t be ignored)

(I can’t feel the way I did before)
(Don’t turn your back on me)
(I won’t be ignored)
(Time won’t heal this damage anymore)
(Don’t turn your back on me)
(I won’t be ignored)

I can’t feel
I won’t be ignored
Time won’t heal
Don’t turn your back on me
I won’t be ignored

{May 2, 2006}   we belong together

ld have held on tight
I never should’ve let you go
I did nothing
I was stupid
I was foolish
I was lying to myself
I could not fathom that I would ever
Be without your love
Never imagined I’d be
Sitting here beside myself

I didn’t know you
I didn’t know me
But I thought I knew everything
I never felt
The feeling that I’m feeling now
Now that I don’t
Hear your voice
Or even touch or even kiss your lips
Cause I don’t have a choice
What I wouldn’t give
To have you lying by my side

We belong together
When you left
I lost a part of me
It’s still so hard to believe
Come back baby please
We belong together

Who else am I gonna lean on
When times get rough
Who’s gonna talk to me
Till the sun comes up
Who’s gonna take your place
Baby nobody else
We belong together

I can’t sleep at night
When you’re all on my mind
Bobby Womack’s on the radio
Singing to me
‘If you think you’re lonely now’
Wait a minute
This is too deep, too deep
I gotta change the station
So I turn the dial
Trying to catch a break
And then I hear Babyface

I only think of you
And it’s breaking my heart
I’m trying to keep it together
But I’m falling apart
I’m feeling all out of my element
I’m throwing things
Crying
Trying to figure out
Where the hell I went wrong
The pain reflected in this song
Ain’t even half of what
I’m feeling inside
I need you
Need you back in my life baby

When you left
I lost a part of me
It’s still so hard to believe
Come back baby please
We belong together

Who else am I gonna lean on
When times get rough
Who’s gonna talk to me
Till the sun comes up
Who’s gonna take your place
There ain’t nobody else
We belong together

”i love the sky, makes me feel…………..”

I managed to find the suspense novel by Rupert Holmes today…….!!! wow, going crazy with reading once again!;)

{April 23, 2006}   Let Desire be your destiny

Boris from Brazil sent me some wonderful music. One of which is Tori Amos- SIREN.
I’ve
seen the film GREAT EXPECTATIONS and it has cast a very very deep
impression in my mind, even til today I still remember that pursuit of
an unrequited and haughty childhood love. This movie i saw was in 1998
when I was only 14.

It was a modernization, a nicely done film
based on Charles Dickens’ timeless tale, this is a story of the love of
a man for an unreachable woman. Updated to modern day New York City,
the story concerns a man of modest background who falls in love with a
rich girl. But when a mysterious benefactor greenlights the man to make
his dreams come true, everything done has the ultimate goal of making
Estella fall in love with him…

And you know you’re
Gonna lie to you
In your own way

Know know too well
Know the chill
Know she breaks
My siren

Never was one
For a
Prissy girl
Coquette
Call in for
An ambulence
Reach high
Doesn’t
Mean she’s
holy
Just means
She’s got a cellular
Handy
Almost
Brave
Almost
Pregnant
Almost in love "vanilla"

And you know you’re
Gonna lie to you
in your own way

[SIREN means a woman who is considered to be alluring or fascinating but also dangerous in some way]

I like this song Besame Mucho. Yes, it was the ending song of the movie GREAT EXPECTATIONS.
What do you think it is singing: Consuelo Velazquez Bésame, bésame mucho?

Como si fuera esta noche la última vez.
Besame, besame mucho,
Que tengo miedo perderte,
Perderte otra vez.

Quiero tenerte muy
Cerca, mirarme en tus
Ojos, verte junto a mí,
Piensa que tal vez
Mañana yo ya estaré
Lejos, muy lejos de ti.

Bésame, bésame mucho,
Como si fuera esta noche la última vez.
Bésame mucho,
Que tengo miedo perderte,
Perderte después.

I dun really understand a single word even the much repeated ‘Besame Mucho’. But mucho sounded familiar …to me it means MUCH. And true enough, it’s means ‘A LOT’. This is a Mexican song written in 1940 by Consuelo Velazquez before her sixteenth birthday. According to Velazquez herself, she was inspired by an aria from an Italian opera by Enrique Granados.

After seeing the translation of this mexican song into English, I realised it’s such a SULTRY and suited to the ending part of the film…the feelings and especially the MOOD extended by this song to end the part of a classic like this one. I have bought the sountrack in 1988 a few days after seeing this film cos of the wonderful mood it extends. That time, I haven’t even tasted the feeling of love – I was just as curious as the painter in the classic novel by Charles Dickens…

Kiss me, Kiss me a lot,
As if tonight was the last time.
Kiss me, kiss me a lot,
Because I fear to lose you,
To lose you again.

I want to have you very close
To see myself in your eyes,
To see you next to me,
Think that perhaps tomorrow
I already will be far,
very far from you.

Kiss me, Kiss me a lot,
As if tonight was the last time.
Kiss me, a lot,
because I fear to lose you,
To lose you later…

I realised I love music which features mellow rock instrumentation, jazz influences, hip-hop influences, +a vocal-centric aesthetic, +dub influences, trippy soundscapes, prevalent use of groove+ a subtle use of vocal harmony and mild rhythmic syncopation…….Listen and you will know what i mean:)

Pulau Ayer Chawan Off Jurong Part of Jurong Islands now. Used to be a small fishing village up to the 1960s, with villagers living in Malay-style wooden stilt houses on the palm-fringed island. Then in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Esso decided to house their facilities there.
Pulau Ayer Merbau Off Jurong Houses the Petrochemical Corporation of Singapore
Pulau Bukum Kechil West of Singapore Used to be a smaller island next to Pulau Bukom, hence named after the larger island. This small island is now joined to the larger island.

{April 14, 2006}   1911, 1966 and 2005

Three stories. In three times.

TIME ONE.
a time for love
shyness | bashful | innocence

TIME TWO.
a time for freedom | inter-titles | silent film about a brothel, the buying courtesans as concubines

TIME THREE.
a time for youth | tattoos | artistic close up photography
darkness vs portable flourescent light tube
cell phones | text messages | motor cycle ride on highway
epilesy | lesbianism | smog | ROCK singing

Film ends chaotically – just like how possibly we have in THIS life…THIS generation…

The Charming Chang Chen, (the main actor), is quite sexy, a tough but tender man.

One very unique moment I thot worth mentioning about Shuqi is in the TIME TWO, before she was about to sing, only that moment before that scene ends. Her expression was of that RESIGNED TO FATE -kind-of look on her face. I dunno how to say the intentional styling desired by the Film Director – she looked sophisticated in that smoky eyes makeup too…i’ve noticed her makeup and she certainly has quite a ‘versatile’ face…

I like the TIME TWO silent effects. Nice flashback style of filming lets you sips into the moments even after the movie…

The Prophet 1923
Even as the strings of the lute are alone though they
quiver with the same music. Give our hearts, but not into each other’s
keeping. For only the hand of life can contain hearts. And stand
together yet not too near together. For the pillars of the temple stand
apart. And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s
shadows.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’97
Wear sunscreen
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be
it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by
scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable
than my own meandering
experience…I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not
understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and
recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before
you and how fabulous you really looked….You’re not as fat as you
imagine.

Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as
effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing
bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that
never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you

Sing

Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with
people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes
you’re behind…the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with
yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you
succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your
life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
olds I know still don’t.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe
you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky
chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…what ever you do, don’t
congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your
choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s. Enjoy your body,
use it every way you can…don’t be afraid of it, or what other people
think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever
own..

Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

(Brother and sister together we’ll make it through
Someday your spirit will take you and guide you there
I know you’ve been hurting, and I know I’ve been waiting to be there
for you. And I’ll be there, just tell me now, whenever I can.
Everybody’s free.)

Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for
good.

Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the
people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you
should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and
lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you
knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live
in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will
philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize
that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were
noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund,
maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one
might run out.

Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you’re 40, it will
look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who
supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of
fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the
ugly parts and recycling it for more than
it’s worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen…

(Brother and sister together we’ll make it through
Someday your spirit will take you and guide you there
I know you’ve been hurting, and I know I’ve been waiting to be there
for you. And I’ll be there, just tell me now, whenever I can.
Everybody’s free.)

SARABAND by the Swedish director Ingmar Bergman

Oh, this time, we missed that prologue. Did you happened to have viewed this film? Can share with me what’s covered in the prologue? (*curious*) What did Marianne say?Did i miss much of it?

“Should I go and kiss him or should I return where I came from?” “Or should I just stand here and let confusion run amok?”
And the counting down moments, 33 seconds, 47 seconds…….very very interestingly done:)

I dun really like Henrik. In the scene, Henrik visits his father, sitting in his library surrounded by books, to ask to borrow some money; the two men spar angrily, and Johan says he prefers to see this “healthy hate” from his son rather than the usual mealy mouthed response. Henrik demands in wonderment, “Father, where did all this hostility comes from?” Johan reminds Henrik of how his son rejected him when he was 18. Henrik draws close to his father and hisses, not unreasonably: “Words uttered 50 years ago are no excuse.”

And O, I’ve noticed the music on a few scenes. I thot that moment when Marianne enters a deserted church and hears Henrik playing Bach on the organ, when they converse amiably, he, charmed by her, impulsively invites her to dinner and she accepts, only to realize she can’t make it, at which point he starts spewing out uncontrolled, poisonous hostility. Or should I also add, he’s RUDE!

A scene that I think that was remarkable was that one when Johan awakens with an anxiety attack. Johan stands baffled in his nightshirt, saying, “My anxiety is bigger than I am – I’m too small for my anxiety!” Marianne, who had been sleeping in a guest room, invites him consolingly into her bed. Erland Josephson rips off his nightshirt and we see the old actor in all his foolish nakedness; then she takes off her dressing gown as well, and the sight of her nude body calms her ex-lover’s anxiety attack – a wonderful moment, even if a trifle too gallantly unlit for this viewer’s curiosity.

I love the filming (the d.o.p), the treatment. This film comes in a series of 10 duets, with the dyadic personae shifting from scene to scene: first Johan and Marianne, then Marianne and Karin, then Karin and her father, then Johan and Henrik, then Henrik and Marianne….. Each scene is introduced by its number and chapter title, reminding us that we are watching a self-consciously made narrative, with the theatricality of blackout skits.

Nice:) Sweet after-movie thots…I dun mind growing old in that moment to see that splendid view of Sweden holding hands, SIMPLY! holding hands, breathing in the fresh spring or autumn’s air (whatever season that is)…..ahhh…

{March 28, 2006}   ‘O.K.’

Blogtab1_3

I was wondering about this ‘O.K.’. first, I’m wondering if it is an abbrievated word or an acronym?

Then I found this reading:-
Okay is a term of approval or assent, often written as OK, O.K., ok, okay, or more informally as simply kay, k or kk.

When used to describe the quality of a thing, it denotes acceptability. However, its usage can also be strongly approving; as with most slang, its usage is determined by context.

The word "okay" is currently posited as the single most used word on Earth, owing to its common employment in a vast number of cultures and languages.

There are several theories about the origins of this word, some of them apocryphal and none of them conclusive. Whatever its origin, the word spread around the world, the "okay" spelling of it first appearing in British writing in the 1860s. Spelled out in full in the 20th century, ‘okay’ has come to be in everyday use among English speakers, and borrowed by non-English speakers. Occasionally a humorous form okey dokey is used, as well as A-ok.

Greek Language

In Greece teachers would mark especially good school papers with "OK" for Ola Kala (Ολα Καλά, ΟΚ), meaning that everything is good; as a variant on that story, the Greek phrase would be used by sailors as a quick way of responding to the captain’s inquiry about the condition of the ship. O.K. was marked on shipping crates after inspection, as the crates travelled and disembarked around the world people saw the abbreviation as meaning everything in them was all right ‘Ola Kala’.

Choctaw Language

In the native American Choctaw language, there is a word "okeh" with the same meaning and pronunciation as American usage; Woodrow Wilson, among others, used this spelling to emphasize the Native American origins of the word. The Choctaw language was well known as a lingua franca of the frontiersmen of the early 19th Century, including eventual American Presidents Andrew Jackson and William Henry Harrison.

"Oll Korrekt"

Allen Walker Read wrote six articles in the journal American Speech in 1963 and 1964 on the origins of the word. He dismissed the Choctaw origins as mythic folklore, emphasizing the possibility that "OK" arose as a cute abbreviation.

He believed the word to be short for any of several different spellings of "all correct", including "Oll Korrect", "Orl Korrect", and "Ole Kurreck". There was a fad in the 1830s and 1840s involving the intentional misspelling of common phrases, and referring to them by the resulting initials. These may have been influenced by the Low German phrase "Oll klor", which would have been spoken by emigrants from Northern Germany. The fad included many other briefly popular abbreviations such as OW, "oll wright" (all right) and KY, "know yuse" (no use), none of which has survived. The first recorded use of "OK" in this sense was in the Boston Morning Post on March 23, 1839, in the sentence "He…would have the ‘contribution box’, et ceteras, o.k.–all correct–and cause the corks to fly, like sparks, upward."

Read discounts evidence of earlier popular origins of the word; for instance, a Boston businessman used it in a daily journal in 1815, but in context it does not seem to be used in the sense of "okay, good".

African Origins

Another plausible etymology for "okay" is the suggestion that the expression may have entered North America along with African slaves many of whom arrived speaking one or more of several west African languages in which [oke] ("okay" or something close to it) was already part of the vocabulary, with a semantic scope quite close to that of "okay" in contemporary English. "Waw-kay" is an exclamation in both Bantu and Wolof dialects, "kay" being a word meaning "yes," and "waw" an emphatic; "waw-kay" is an emphatic "yes." It is observed that of all the things a newly arrived slave might be expected to utter in the presence of their English-speaking master, the single most frequent would surely be an emphatic yes. Lending credence to the African theory is the fact that a Bantu or Wolof origin is ascribed, with little or no controversy, to such common English words as "jive" ("jev") and "banana," among others. Although "okay" may have found its way into English from an African source, the similarity of the Choctaw form could have helped to solidify its use among at least some English speakers. As in the Choctaw origin theory, in this view the word "okay" was already in significant spoken use, though rarely written, when it began to acquire the several competing backronyms ("Old Kinderhook," "Oll Korrect," etc.) that have survived in print.

Occitan language

The hallmark of the Occitan language is oc, the medieval Occitan word for yes, as opposed to oïl, the ancestor of the modern French oui, from the langue d’oïl of Northern France.

Vulgar Latin developed different methods of signifying assent: "hoc ille" and "hoc", which became the langue d’oil and langue d’oc (or Occitan language), respectively. The subsequent development of "oïl" into "oui" can be seen in modern French, and "hoc ille" may have evolved into OK.

Legendary origins

Initials

Since the term bears resemblance to a person’s initials, many proposals have been made as to who "O.K." was, and why their name would become synonymous with acceptability.

One story says it comes from a railroad freight agent, Obadiah Kelly, who initialed bills of lading, or an Indian chief Old Keokuk who wrote his initials on treaties. Another story is that it comes from boxes of Orrins-Kendall crackers which were popular with Union troops during the US Civil War. Some say the term comes from a German businessman Otto Kaiser who put his initials on goods he had inspected. A related version ascribes it to a worker named Otto Kruger or Oskar Krause at a Ford plant in Michigan, who would inspect each car coming off the assembly line and chalk his initials on the front windshield if it was "OK".

Andrew Jackson

An alleged meaning found in the popular game, Trivial Pursuit, says Andrew Jackson, one of the founders of the Democratic Party, and the seventh President of the United States, when asked about his usage of the two-letter acronym on bills, responded that OK stood for "oll korrect," a phonetic misspelling of "all correct." The likelihood of this story is supported by the fact that Andrew Jackson was a great Army General, but not much of a scholar.

French Fisherman Origins

Another possible origin for the term "OK" comes from French fishermen, sometimes said to be based in New Orleans. When the fishermen came back from their trips and were approaching the harbour, when asked by the harbourmaster where to tie up their boats, the captain would shout "au quai", meaning "to the quay". Later, when asked how their trip went, in the local taverns etc., they would simply reply "au quai", which would indicate that their ship had been tied up to the quay to unload a lot of fish. The phrase "au quai" became synonymous with success and integrated local slang.

Fourteenth Century Oak Wood?

The term OK has also been used in an English will and testament from 1565. It is possible that this usage originates from "oak" – the tree from which ships were constructed in the British Navy. The actor David Garrick (1717-1779) wrote the Royal Navy’s song "Heart of Oak", a patriotic song celebrating naval victories of the Seven Years War (1756-1763). In Britain oak wood is a symbol of solid dependable construction. Thus it is possible to see how establishing the reliability of the vessel might involve asking if it was "oak-a?" In 2000 the First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Michael Boyce said, in the Royal Navy’s "Navy News": "It is no exaggeration to say that the reputation of the Royal Navy is founded on British oak."

Typesetters, Harvests, the Finns, the Scots or the French?

The term OK was also used by typesetters and people working in the publishing business. A manuscript that didn’t need any changes or corrections would be marked "O.K." for Ohne Korrektur (German for "No changes"). Another story is that it comes from the British English word hoacky (the last load of the harvest). Or the Finnish word Oikein (that’s right). Or the Scottish expression och aye. Or the French aux Cayes or au quai.

0 Killed

Another version is that the term was used by U.S. military during the U.S. civil war to state that there were zero casualties or zero killed ("0K"), hence 0.K., at a particular battle site.

O.K. Club

In the presidential election of 1840, the term "OK" was further popularized by use as a slogan by the O.K. Club, New York boosters of Democratic president Martin Van Buren’s 1840 re-election bid; it was an allusion to his nickname Old Kinderhook, from his birthplace Kinderhook, New York. Van Buren lost, but the word stuck.

Spelling style

Whether this word is printed as OK, okay, or O.K. is a matter normally resolved in the style manual for the publication involved. Common style guides: Chicago, New York Times, etc., provide no consensus nor do dictionaries. The Associated Press Stylebook recommends the spellings "OK, Ok’d OK’ing, OKs" and states "do not use [the spelling] okay."

More recently, text messagers (email, chat rooms, instant messaging, mobile phone messaging (Short message service), etc.) use "kk" or even "k", as a quickly-typed, informal variation of the spelling, though some claim this variation has been in use since at least the BBS days of the early 1990s.

From the Oxford English Dictionary:

Okay (also OK) / adj, adv (informal) all right; satisfactory or satisfactorily
Eg. I hope the children are okay. (I hope the children are all right.)
I think I did OK in the exam. (I think I did well, but not too well, on the exam.)
He is OK. ( He is good. )

ok . ok . ok . ok . ok . ok .
ok . ok . ok . ok . ok . ok .
ok . ok . ok . ok . ok . ok .

I guess the most interesting about O.K. is

(1) "Oll Korrekt"
or
(2)Ola Kala
as by Greece teachers would mark especially good school papers with "OK" for Ola Kala (Ολα Καλά, ΟΚ), meaning that everything is good

Quite a good movie, suspense, sci fi, wonderful features of Natalie Portman (even when her hair has been cut! ;)

November 5, 1997, London. V rescues a young woman, Evey Hammond, from a gang of police agents – known as "Fingermen" – who are about to rape and kill her as punishment for her attempts to solicit them. After blowing up the now-closed Houses of Parliament, V takes Evey to his secret lair, which he calls "the Shadow Gallery." Evey tells V her life story, describing the nuclear war of the late 1980s and the fascist coup in which her father became a political prisoner.

The investigation into the bombing is assigned to Eric Finch, an experienced investigator who serves the government out of a love of order rather than political conviction. Through him we meet other figures in the corrupt Party, including the Leader, Adam James Susan, a recluse who is fixated on the police state’s computer system, "Fate."
V next blows up the The Old Bailey, and confronts three Party figures to accuse them of past crimes: Lewis Prothero, the propaganda broadcaster who serves as the "voice of Fate"; Bishop Lilliman, the Party’s paedophilic representative in the clergy, who V kills by forcing him at knifepoint to consume a cyanide-laced communion wafer; and Delia Surridge, a seemingly apolitical doctor who had a personal relationship with Finch. Through torture, and the destruction of his collection of dolls, V drives Prothero insane before killing the others. Finch’s research, partly done with Dr. Surridge’s diary, reveals that all three victims were officers at the infamous Larkhill Resettlement Camp, and that over the previous several years, every other staff member from the camp has died, apparently killed by V – the vendetta of the title. V is the only survivor of the camp, and no records exist of his real name. All that is known is that he was subjected to medical experiments in the camp, similar to those of Josef Mengele, which apparently caused V’s transformation into a brilliant and obsessive avenger.

Six months later, V breaks into the broadcast centre for the Party, to broadcast an anarchist speech that calls on the people to take charge of their own lives; he escapes by a cruel and fatal ruse, which leads to Eric Finch being suspended.
Evey has developed a strong attachment to V, but also begun to challenge his morality. After a confrontation in the Shadow Gallery, she finds herself abandoned on a street, unable to find V. She is taken in by Gordon, a petty criminal, and they cross paths unknowingly with Rose Almond, the widow of a policeman killed by V; Rose has been forced to work as a burlesque dancer and has consequently developed a strong hatred for the Party. Creedy, a petty criminal-turned-leader of the secret police, begins organising a private militia, hoping to use V’s destabilization of the Party to mount a coup against the Leader. V, maintaining surveillance on all of these various factions, appears to be manipulating them against each other.
When Gordon is murdered by a gangster in Creedy’s employ, Evey attempts revenge but is arrested, detained, and tortured. In her cell, Evey finds a letter from a former inmate, Valerie, an actress who was imprisoned for being a lesbian. Evey’s interrogator gives her a choice of collaboration or death; inspired by Valerie’s defiance, she refuses to give in, and is told she is free. To her shock, Evey learns that her imprisonment was a hoax constructed by V, to put her through a spiritual ordeal like the one that shaped him. He reveals that Valerie was another Larkhill prisoner, who died in the cell next to his; the memoir that Evey read is exactly the same one that V read. Evey’s anger gives way to acceptance of her identity and freedom.

November 1998. V destroys the Party’s communication and surveillance centre (housed in Post Office Tower), spurring a wave of wanton violence and hedonism which is violently suppressed by Creedy’s street gangs. Meanwhile, V notes that this is not The Land of Do-As-You Please end result he wants, but rather it’s mere chaos in The Land of Take What You Want—an interim period which he intends to follow up with the establishment of true anarchy, a voluntarily orderly society. Finch’s assistant Dominic realises that V has had access to the Fate computer since the very beginning, explaining his seeming foresight; this news accelerates the mental collapse of the Leader.
Finch travels to the abandoned site of Larkhill, on the Wiltshire Downs, where he takes LSD. His hallucinations lead him to an intuitive understanding of V, and returning to London, he discovers that the Shadow Gallery is hidden in Victoria Station, part of the abandoned London Underground. Finch enters the underground and mortally wounds V, who escapes to die in Evey’s arms. Evey considers unmasking V, but decides not to learn his identity; instead, she assumes it, donning one of his spare costumes. Meanwhile, Rose Almond’s private vendetta has led her to assassinate the Leader. In the ensuing chaos, Creedy’s own men kill him, while Finch reports the news that V is dead. When Evey appears to the crowd as V, a general insurrection begins.

Evey completes V’s final terrorist act, the destruction of 10 Downing Street, by giving her mentor a "viking funeral" with an explosive-laden Underground carriage containing his body set to detonate at the desired location. She rescues Dominic from the mob and takes him back to the Shadow Gallery, implying that she intends to train him as her successor, having vowed to help the people to create the society the original V dreamed of creating. Having removed the totalitarian old regime, there’s no longer a need for destruction. Finch observes the chaos raging in the city before heading to the countryside. All forms of authority in Britain are now gone; its future is left uncertain.

S’pore detains activist in bear suit during queen visit

Source: Reuters
SINGAPORE, March 17 (Reuters) – Singapore police briefly detained an Australian animal activist dressed in a bear suit on Friday after she staged a protest during Queen Elizabeth’s official visit to the city-state.
The woman, who belongs to the group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), displayed a sign reading "God Save the Bears" at the Singapore president’s palace.
Jodi Ruckley was protesting against the use of Canadian black bear pelts for the ceremonial hats used by the queen’s guards at Buckingham Palace.
"I only got to stay there for about five minutes until the police came and dragged me away. I didn’t get to see the queen, unfortunately," Ruckley, 33, told Reuters after her release.
The queen arrived in Singapore on Thursday night for a three-day visit on her way home from Australia where she opened the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
Ruckley, who said she had seen the queen twice during similar protests in Canada and Britain, was released after a few hours.

Zsolt mentioned as he heard about it in the news. Yes, it’s ‘Jodi’ sounds alike (didn’t spells the same:) as mine…He also said he was smiling when he heard this news. Did u, too? ;)

Anyhow, I think it’s an interesting way to stage a protest against the use of Canadian black bear pelts for the ceremonial hats used by the queen’s guards!! Ha ha, I wonder if the Queen is aware about her (Jodi’s) kind intention :)

Views of big companies gone wrong and the horrors that they are willing to inflect on others for the sake of profit. With a view of Kenya that is rarely seen in film and a sense of reality that is only found in real life. This film blooms with a tragic, bittersweet beauty and a masterful mixture of suspense. The factual Third World strife and a heartfelt love story of ‘Tessa and Justin’ acted by Rachel Weisz and Ralph Fiennes. Weisz is strong willed and obsessive and Fiennes is determine and endearing and both of them compliment each other with this winning chemistry. This film is done with ‘flashbacks’ just like The English Patient (which is a Hungarian film). Ralph who is a British carries with him this strong and alluring accent that sends out that very ‘woo…ohh’ of a romantic and ‘’seriously-in-love” man.

Tessa :: "It’s like it’s a marriage of convenience and all it produces are dead offspring"

This gripping thriller exposes the shadowy parameters of a war against the poor and the powerless that is animated by corporate greed and political amorality.

I read about the true story of John F. Nash after my friend told me to read about how the film has depicted quite differently from Nash’s life. There was indeed no mention of Nash’s numerous mathematical theorems, the originality and difficulty of which makes him one of the best pure mathematicians of the 20th century.

  • No mention of Nash’s sexual adventures while at Rand and his second family in Boston — although his son from Boston plays a bit part in the movie, as a nurse manhandling Nash in the hospital.

Nash joined Wheeler’s lab at MIT after gaining his PhD from Princeton — however, there is no such lab at MIT. He was actually appointed as C.L.E. Moore Instructor at MIT. His preservation at Princeton is shown as exclusively the work of professors in the Mathematics department while in fact administrators, especially at Firestone Library and the Information Centers in later years, also played a role. They are portrayed as one library clerk who didn’t get interoffice mail.

  • Nash’s hallucinations were exclusively auditory, and not both visual and auditory as shown in the film. It is true that his handlers, both from faculty and administration, had to introduce him to assistants and strangers.

A deleted scene from A Beautiful Mind reveals that Nash independently invented the board game Hex.

This is probably the second time that I’m watching this movie again. It could even be the third if I’ve forgotten that I did (watched) on that one night though I was too tired i still wanna watch it….I didn’t ‘make it’ that night cos I dozed off, cos I was really too sleepy.

Now I wanna mention this here as I really felt it is so………..ooooo beautiful to hear this from Nash. Because of Alicia. Alicia looked at him intently and said this "I need to believe, that something extraordinary is possible." It is such a touching moment.

Now I wanna quote Nash:
"I’ve made the most important discovery of my life. It’s only in the mysterious equation of love that any logical reasons can be found. I’m only here tonight because of you. You’re the only reason I am… you’re all the reasons I am."

In such a nice way to know that he is ‘not sick’ although all else that he ’saw’ in his mind was really still true.

Dsc04089 Watched the movie ‘Transamerica’ and it was a good performance by Felicity Huffman. I saw the shots some time ago and didn’t think it could be a good movie…but there were quite a strain of humor with moments throughout their journey transamerica. Not that I like sarcasm or anything like that but the clever use of sarcasm and her way of communication with her son starring Keven Zegers (Toby in the film). One part when ‘Toby’ was analysing why he thinks the LORD OF THE RINGS is actually a GAY STORY – was very hilarious and I thot it was a little whimsical too:) It kind-of shows the possible generation gap the father could have with his son in his way of defining gay (and this is very current context be it anywhere).

{March 1, 2006}   MUNICH

Time and again, he didn’t disappoint me. This time with this political thriller about Israeli retaliation for the murder. The Palestinian terrorists. The knowledge that vengence is a self-perpetuating murder machine that drags successive generations into a ENTANGLEMENT of tit-for-tat bloodshed.

They called it the ”The Black September" in history when eight terrorists took nine members of Israel’s team hostage, killing two others in the process; 24 hours later, all the hostages were dead. These are supported with true news coverage of the actual events. Some figures from the early 1970s are depicted in the film much are intercut into that part of the movie.

About the killing people at close range that is excruciating!!! The detailed look at how the events are endlessly replayed and analyzed in the press, how it can affect the people like a silent campaign. So strong. So powerful are such images. I also noticed the interesting choice of cast he took the effort to bring together for such a production! There are also people who speak different languages from all different countries!!! (There’s one really funny part, when he asked the Italian lady to keep talking keep talking, in the car! And the woman just did as told;)

This strange assembling of a covert five-man team to avenge the attack and send an unequivocal message that Israel will not sit back and be terrorized. This thought about the film lingers in my head. For a couple of days, i’m thinking their intention of getting an UNLIKELY leader starring Eric Bana. Someone with no experience in field assassination AT ALL!!! I also appreciate the fact that he got Geoffrey Rush as he is a very very good actor!! (Inspite of the fact that he was in becos the initial cast will delay the film.) That part where he was almost thrembling (with anger) when he was trying to get Eric and his team to ‘talk’ to tell him the informants of those names they killed. Also that moment, it made me suspect why he is more keen of the informant’s name than anything else…

These four other man, Steven Spielberg has chosen four very interesting men for these characters. And the impact was really great! In the midst of the movie, I was wondering ‘why such a combination of men? why some so old?…’ though in real they are actually not (oh, Robert, the "bomb maker” this styling of him as an Israeli gave and really concealed the REAL REAL Mathieu KassovitZ…….who is so…so…. charming! Mathieu_kassovitz
but he looked like a nerd here in MUNICH… the crew also included a cleanup specialist, a hit man and Dutch forger (Hans). Talking about this, there was a part when they were in ‘the safe house’ when they almost fight over the tuning of the radio to listen to ‘their kind of music in that rundown place. That genre that they finally settles for…that part was very humourous too:) I like it

Their payment terms are quite perculiar as they will be paid through untraceable safe-deposit boxes and must sever ties with family and friends; should anything go wrong, the government will disavow any knowledge of their actions.

The climax of the film that shows they fall prey to the PARANOIA that comes with knowing how infinitely possible it is to die by a bomb hidden in your telephone or bed. They’re increasingly troubled that they’ve never seen a shred of evidence that their 11 targets had anything to do with the Munich massacre (is it mere coincidence that there’s one for each dead Israeli?) and by the fact that every successful assassination triggers a retaliatory act of terror. Who can think of such plot? So subtly he said it’s a fiction inspired by true events.

Coolsideview
Oh, I also heard that some parts of the film was done in Budapest. The film was shot in various places around Malta (which stands in for Israel, Cyprus, Athens, and also for Rome and Paris, in some scenes) and in Budapest (standing in for London, Rome and for the German airport of Fürstenfeldbruck)

Some truths of why he said it is ‘inspired by TRUE EVENTS’
The named members of Black September, and their deaths are also mostly factual. Wael Zwaiter, a cousin of Yasser Arafat and translator at the Libyan embassy in Rome was shot fourteen times in the lobby of his apartment 41 days after Munich. On December 8th of that year Mahmoud Hamshiri, a senior PLO figure was killed in Paris by a bomb concealed in the table below his telephone. Others killed during this period include Mohammed Boudia, Basil al-Kubasi, Abad al-Chir, Zaid Muchassi, some of whose deaths are depicted in the film. Ali Hassan Salameh was also a real person, and a prominent member of Black September. He was killed by car bomb in Beirut in 1979. The commando raid in Beirut, known as Operation Spring of Youth, also occurred. This attack included future Prime Minister Ehud Barak and he briefly appears in the film. The film does not mention the case of Ahmed Bouchiki, an innocent man killed by the Israelis in Norway when they confused him with Salameh.

Steven Spielberg. He’s still the best!

I found the article I initially read about was in my ‘’stickies” since it was a library magazine where I’ve ”MAGged”. I didn’t borrow. Even if I did I would do the same as I find it an interesting write up…It was a five to six pages feature writeup, I dun quite recalled how many exactly, one part of the magazine article it read:”what happens in the brain when you pray” and I took this down…

Parietal lobe helps us distinguish ourselves from the world. This part of the brain is associated with orientation and gives a person a distinct sense of individuality – the sends of ‘I’. During prayer, this area becomes quiet. As a result the distinction between self and the world disappears.

Frontal lobe is associated with individual will. Prayer modulates brain stem monoamine neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine, helping a person let go of ego.

Prayer and meditation also cause frontal and temporal lobe circuits, which mark time and self-awareness, to snap.

What happens in the body

The new science of psychoneuroimmunology looks at the relationship between mind and body. When we have a thought or feeling our brain produces neuropeptides or nerve proteins that send chemical messages to other cells in the body. Prayer helps produce serotonin,a neuropeptide, that positively influences mood and behaviour. The healing process starts here.

PRAYER WAVES
Neurons in the brain communicate with the help of electric impulses of four different frequencies:

DELTA 0-4 Hertz,
it is predominant during deep sleep and reflects the unconscious mind.

THETA 4-8 Hz, represents the transition from wakefulness to sleep and relates to the subconscious. Increased theta activity is noticed in yogis who have been practising meditation for long.

ALPHA 8-12 Hz
is associated with relaxation and calm-wakefulness and bridges the conscious and the subconscious states. Normal prayer shows an increase in alpha activity.

BETA 15-18 Hz
is high during problem-solving and decision-making and processing information about the world around us.

DISTANT PRAYER
Intercessory prayer or distant prayer is where someone is being prayed for. Dr Larry Dossey, the author of "Prayer is Good Medicine", cites studies proving that concentrated thought could inhibit the growth of fungi, yeasts and bacteria. Another study says wounded mice prayed for healed faster. According to him, the studies suggest that "the results are not due to the placebo effect."

Dossey lists certain possibilities of prayer and spiritual practices positively influencing physical health:

Many belief systems and practices require to follow regulations in diet and other health-related behavours. Preliminary fasts, meditation, abstentions may themselves promote health.

Collective spiritual practices provide social support – it fosters a sense of belonging which research shows is healthy.

Rituals such as prayer positively impact the immune and cardio-vascular systems. For instance, prof. Luciano Bernardi of the University of Padua, Italy, says reciting of yoga mantras an Ave Maria slows the respiratory rate to size breaths a minute, which coincides with the rhythmic oscillation of nervous impulses controlling the heart rate. This synchronicity of respiratory and heart rate boosts oxygen in the blood, while improving circulation to the brain.

THE WEEK JULY 31, 2005Dsc03905_1

Ching Sian and I were talking about many issues last night. She is currently working in a complex work environment that is undergoing reorganisation. Although it is perfectly normal to say that she is deeply affected by such a corporate decision. Her own department…………..blar. ..blar…….blar..

It is not what I exactly wanna blog here. The main point is, at one moment she asked me who to pray TO? She has an open mind. Being a counsellor, she needs a "Channel Out" outlet too… I began to recall that I’ve read an article (on an Indian published magazine, forgot the title) that says there are ample proof that prayer works. THE WONDERFUL THING is, no matter who you pray to, it WORKS!!
I also found the following. To Ching Sian, I wanna share this with you, hope you are inspired too:)

Many scientific studies have been conducted that validate this observation.

A 1993 Israeli survey following 10,000 civil servants for 26 years found that Orthodox Jews were less likely to die of cardiovascular problems than "nonbelievers." And a 1995 study from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., monitoring 250 people after open-heart surgery concluded that those who had religious connections and social support were 12 times less likely to die than those who had none.

In an attempt to understand the depression that often accompanies hospitalization, Duke University researchers assessed 1,000 hospital patients from 1987 to 1989; patients who drew on religious practices, including prayer, were found to cope far better than those who didn’t.

NIH recently convened a panel to determine the merits of integrating conventional medicine with behavioral and relaxation therapies to treat hypertension. The team found that the conflation of therapies, of which prayer was a key component, "can lower one’s breathing rate, heart rate, and blood pressure."

The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque is studying the power of prayer to heal alcoholics. And there is a prayer-and-healing study in progress at Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington, the nation’s leading naturopathic-training institute. Certainly, following a spiritual or religious lifestyle might lead to better health; the devout may be less likely to succumb to the hazards of smoking, drinking, and sleeping around. However, for the non-believers, it is hard to understand how intercessory or non-local prayer works. This is thew situation when the sick persons are prayed for and don’t even know it.

In the most widely publicized studies of the effect of intercessory prayer, cardiologist Randolph Byrd studied 393 patients admitted to the coronary-care unit at San Francisco General Hospital. Some were prayed for by home-prayer groups, others were not. All the men and women got medical care. In this randomized, double-blind study, neither the doctors and nurses nor the patients knew who would be the object of prayer.

The results were dramatic and surprised many scientists. The men and women whose medical care was supplemented with prayer needed fewer drugs and spent less time on ventilators. They also fared better overall than their counterparts who received medical care but nothing more. The prayed-for patients were:

    * Significantly less likely to require antibiotics (3 patients versus 16)

    * Significantly less likely to develop pulmonary edema-a condition in which the lungs fill with fluid because the heart cannot pump properly (6 versus 18).

    * Significantly less likely to require insertion of a tube into the throat to assist breathing (0 versus 12).

    * Less likely to die (but this difference was not statistically significant).

Even more outrageous experiments in distance healing involve nonhuman subjects. In a survey of 131 controlled experiments on spiritual healing, it was found that prayed-for rye grass grew taller; prayed-for yeast resisted the toxic effects of cyanide; prayed-for test-tube bacteria grew faster. "I adore these experiments," says Larry Dossey, M.D., perhaps the world’s most vocal expert on prayer and medicine. "Because they don’t involve humans, you can run them with fanatical precision and you can run them hundreds of times. It’s the best evidence of all that prayer can change the world. And it operates as strongly on the other side of the Earth as it does at the bedside."

In his 1994 book, Healing Words, Larry Dossey, M.D., co-chair of the Panel on Mind-Body Interventions of the Office of Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C., reviewed over 100 experiments, most published in parapsychological literature ‘ on the effects of prayer/visualization. More than half showed an effect on everything from seed germination to wound healing.

    * In several experiments, volunteers visualized stimulating or retarding the growth of bacteria and fungi and achieved significantly positive results from as far as 15 miles away.
    * At the Mind Science Foundation in San Antonio, Texas, researchers took blood samples from 32 volunteers, isolated their red blood cells (RBCS) and placed the samples in a room on the other side of the building. Then the researchers placed the RBCs in a solution designed to swell and burst them, a process that can be measured extremely accurately. Next the researchers asked the volunteers to pray for the preservation of some of the RBCS. To help them visualize, the researchers projected color slides of healthy RBCS. The praying significantly slowed the swelling and bursting of the RBCS.
    * In another study at the Mind Science Foundation, volunteers in a room on one side of the building were asked to visualize volunteers in a room on the other side of the building becoming calmer or more agitated. Meanwhile, the "receivers" were hooked up to biofeedback-type equipment to gauge their reactions. The results showed that the "influencers" exerted a statistically significant effect on the receivers’ moods.

These experiments have shown that prayer can take many forms. Results occurred not only when people prayed for explicit outcomes, but also when they prayed for nothing specific.

The experiments showed that a simple "Thy will be done" approach was quantitatively more powerful than when specific results were held in mind.

A simple attitude of prayerfulness, an all pervading sense of holiness and a feeling of empathy, caring, and compassion for the entity in need, seemed to set the stage for healing.

Experiments also showed that prayer positively affected:

          o High Blood Pressure
          o Wounds
          o Heart Attacks
          o Headaches, and
          o Anxiety.

The subjects in these studies included:

          o Water
          o Enzymes
          o Bacteria
          o Fungi
          o Yeast
          o Red blood cells
          o Cancer cells
          o Pacemaker cells
          o Seeds
          o Plants
          o Algae
          o Moth larvae
          o Mice
          o Chicks

The processes that had been influenced by prayer were:

          o Activity of enzymes
o The growth rate of leukemic white blood cells
          o Mutation rates of bacteria
o Germination and grwth rates of various seeds
o Firing rate of pacemaker cells
          o Healing rates of wounds
o The size of goiters and tumors
o Time required to awaken from anesthesia
o Autonomic effects such as electrodermal activity of the skin, rates of hemolysis of red blood cells and hemoglobin levels.

It did not matter whether the praying person was with the person who was prayed for the power of prayer to work. You can pray for someone who is far away and still will have an influence on the outcome.

Nothing seems to block or stop the effects of prayer – the object in one study was placed in a lead-lined room and in another in a cage that shielded it from all known forms of electromagnetic energy, the effect still go through.

Given the scientific evidence, Dossey and several other researchers now admit that withholding prayer from an ailing patient is downright irresponsible. "It became an ethical issue for me," says Dossey, who defines prayer as "communication with the absolute."

At a Boston conference sponsored by Harvard Medical School, one of the participants predicted that in just 10 years patients will be questioned about not only their personal medical history but also their spiritual belief system.

Certainly, the idea of distance healing is catching on even today. Cyberspace is full of fellow believers who post their requests on daily prayer chains. Those who believe in distance healing are not sure how it works, though theories abound. Some say it involves sending some kind of subtle, as-yet-unidentified energy to the person in need. Others, including Dossey, say quantum physics may play a role, or what Cambridge-trained biologist Rupert Sheldrake calls "morphogenetic fields," unabounded by space or time.

In the absence of hard data, it remains a mystery or a miracle.

The other kind of prayer, in which sick people pray for their own recovery, is far easier for science to explain. Given the proven health benefits of meditation — lowering blood pressure, reversing heart disease — it’s not difficult to see how prayer, which can be equally meditative and relaxing, might induce the same effects.

According to Koenig of Duke University, "when prayer uplifts or calms, it inhibits cortisol, epinephrine, and norepinephrine – hormones that flow out of the adrenal glands in response to stress. These fight-or-flight chemicals, released over time can compromise the immune system, upping the odds of developing any number of illnesses, including heart disease, stroke, peptic ulcers, and inflammatory bowel disorder (IBS)." Many experts feel that the immune system is strengthened and nourished by a sense of peace, which can be transferred from one individual to another or used inwardly. Of course, the ancient stories of the Bible and seminal works of Eastern religions link healing with faith. So, it is reasonable to assume that something such as prayer that provides comfort and peace would influence the propensity for you to get disease or how you recover from a disease.

Recent scientific investigation shows that prayer can be used as an alternative therapy as successfully as meditation, exercise, or herbalism. A study of 91,000 people in rural Maryland showed that weekly church attendees had 50 percent fewer deaths from heart disease than non-churchgoers and 53 percent fewer suicides. Churchgoers have lower blood pressure levels than nonbelievers, even after smoking and other known risk factors are taken into consideration.

Many doctors believe that if they prayed with their patients before and after surgery or before administering a course of powerful drugs, this treatment might assist in the patient’s recovery. Thirty medical schools in America are now offering courses in faith and medicine.

"Prayer works," says Dr. Matthews, associate professor of medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and senior research fellow at the National Institute for Healthcare Research in Rockville, Maryland. Dr. Matthews has reviewed more than 200 studies linking religious commitment and health, cited in his book, ‘The Faith Factor’.

Dr. Matthews cites studies suggesting that people who pray are less likely to get sick, are more likely to recover from surgery and illness and are better able to cope with their illnesses than people who don’t pray. Some evidence indicates that sick people who are prayed for also fare significantly better than those who aren’t. In fact, some physicians report that people who are prayed for often do better even if they don’t know they’re being prayed for. Special Thanks to http://1stholistic.com/Prayer/default.htm

I’m going to look for his book, ‘The Faith Factor’ by Dr. Matthews, associate professor of medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and senior research fellow at the National Institute for Healthcare Research in Rockville, Maryland.

Ohh….., i also chanced upon this photo (it’s not the book cover!! just chanced on it when i was searching….)

quite nice, u agree?Nice photography, u agree with me?

No language , No mathematics , No science can ever describe and
explain and create the beauty of Nature and our unknown Universe. They
can all explain and understand Nature but it never means that we will
be the future creators of this Universe. We are all driven by a strong
cause to live and transform energies around us. We have all progressed
from animals to humans and in this long journey we have exploited all
the living life forms around us. Nature was the womb God created for us
to be born and brought up. In the mirror of consciousness we are all
misguided by our own thoughts and perception of our actions. We unlike
animals not just feed our flesh but also try to feed our souls by
success , pride and superiorities . We were all gifted by intelligence
to find the recipe to comfort , safety and joy. The fact is that , only
a little is known by us about our universe and this never means that
the rest can also be known in the same way . All that little the nature
allowed us to know about our Universe was to find himself the basic
ingredients to live until Death. And the remainder of what all is yet
to be understood really never matters or can change the way can live in
future. Because when all about this universe is understood we will have
no intentions to live on this earth and time would look frozen in the
ice of Knowledge. Lets accept the fact that we are all driven by our
own subconsciosness to live and fight against all unknowns and Enigma
of Cosmos.

" Mysteries and Unanswered questions will stay in visibility as
long as the humans can think and use his eye of Intellect.
Satiating
our Flesh and Souls creates a conflict to each other that leads us to
travell back and forth which in effect can bring no progress to our
thoughts. No one can ever come out or win against this dilemma for the
simple reason that Flesh and Soul can never stay and find meaning when
they are apart.
This is the great secret of our Universal laws that we call it as
METAPHYSICS ".

This has almost been my most regular hangout other than the Sentosa island during the period when it was the rainy season here. With such a serene environment and the brightly lit with most of its clear windows overlooking the exterior was a marvelous sight. Most libraries you can find (just name anywhere) are usually enclosed with little windows, even if there is will be unmatch to the one we have here called Lee Kong Chian Reference Library. It is the central library and sometimes, my friend Hendra would called ‘the big library’, why? cos it is the biggest library? cos it’s able to accommodate a lot of people? Perhaps so, sometimes they hold ‘jamming’ events by ‘amateurs singers’ performers’ etc on Level 1 which is outdoor, so far I feel it is relatively nice and breezy…This library occupies 7 storeys (Levels 7-13)
with a floor area of more than 14,000
square metres, its collection size exceeds 530,000
print and non-print materials.

There is the Esplanade Library as well as the Library@Orchard which I like a lot too:)

This photo, just right opposite 100 Victoria Street.

St Andrew's CathedralIt’s Saint Valentines’ Day. For a CHANGE, I’ve cut my fringe to a very short one :p today. The stylist is quite nice.

I find this very strange thing about people today (or rather not just today:) People who are staying in the other part of the globe wanna travel near the equator or to countries in Asia. As for those in Asia, wanna go further nearer to the the poles:) It’s interesting, as people are with ‘the grass is greener on the other side‘ such desire. Nothing wrong, just find it interesting!

I’ve always hope and CURIOUS to see more of this world. Like going to America or Europe or even Egypt. But some friends I’ve met thinks they like those places which I’ve visited. Not much, I’ve only seen some parts, like Japan all in separate and different trips (only certain parts, like Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo), Hong Kong, Harbin, Beijing, Australia (Only Sydney, Perth, Brisbane-some called it GoldCoast), KL and Trengganu (Pulau Redang) of Malaysia, some small islands like Batam, Bintan (since they are so near to Singapore).

I also realised we have so few nice architectures in Singapore…
The photo above shows (not the best angles or best pix I feel) but there was a metal stand with some historical information when i passed by and it read that the building was designed by Colonel Macpherson, to whose memory a cross was erected which stands on the South lawn of the Cathedral compound. The window over the West Door also commemorates this designer who, though unqualified, produced such a fine and dignified building. The building operations were in the hands of Captain McNair of the Royal Artillery. He was in charge of the convict labour and the supply of materials.

The use of convict labour for the building of a Cathedral is often a subject of comment. In fact much building in Singapore at this time was carried out in this way.

The style of the present Cathedral is Early Gothic and the building consists of a nave with north and south aisles. The north and south transepts, originally built as porches for carriages, have in more recent years (North Transept: 1952, South Transept: 1983) have been extended to provide halls, meeting rooms and offices.

Not the best sunset pix though...

{January 28, 2006}   Something lucid?

Everybody dreams. However, do you have lucid dreams? Lucid dreaming means a more cogent (lucid) control over the content and quality of experience. It means we are dreaming and know what we are dreaming.

Both Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung identify dreams as an interaction between the unconscious and the conscious.

Dream signs are often categorized as follows:
• Action — The dreamer, another dream character, or a thing does something unusual or impossible in waking life, such as photos in a magazine or newspaper becoming 3-dimensional with full movement.
• Context — The place or situation in the dream is strange.
• Form — The dreamer, another character, or a thing changes shape, or is oddly formed or transforms; this may include the presence of unusual clothing or hair, or a third person view of the dreamer.
• Awareness — A peculiar thought, a strong emotion, an unusual sensation, or altered perceptions. In some cases when moving one’s head from side to side, one may notice a strange stuttering or ’strobing’ of the image.

A friend I knew from America told me a lucid dream can be planned ahead. The scenario of the dream can be memorised and rehearsed when awake and the score can be performed when lucidity is achieved.

{January 26, 2006}   Love is Separateness?

Although the act of nurturing another’s spiritual growth has the effect of nurturing one’s own, a major characteristic of genuine love is that the distinction between oneself and the other is always maintained and preserved. The genuine lover always perceives the beloved as someone who has a totally separate identity. Moreover, the genuine lover always repects and even encourages this separateness and the unique individuality of the beloved.

I think it’s true.

{January 23, 2006}   de-Stigmatization

unconscious expression may masquerade under the pretense of authoritarianI found this writing about closeness issues:

A likely ground for this process of avoiding closeness can be observed in individuals who have had a series of scarred intimate relationships, including toxic primary relationships with parents. The parents being too constricted in their own emotional development, as a consequence of their upbringing, to sustain a consistently close, nourishing, warm relationship with their children. Subsequently, in adolescence and later years, these individuals become frightened when intimacy with another looks as if it is an emerging possibility. A number of strategies are effected. Intellectual arguments against continuing the relationship are advanced, or these individuals actively and unconsciously begin to act as saboteurs.

Common sense tells us that neurotic characterology unfolds as time in an intimate relationship evolves. If we are fortunate to meet a partner whose neurosis is compatible with ours, the relationship can develop and be successful. However, this is not often the case. For what lies beneath the surface of the neurotic character is a reservoir of repressed aggression, cruelty, and hatred.

In most intimate relationships the unconscious aggression, sadism, and hatred come to the fore under various guises, early on. The unconscious expression may masquerade under the pretense of authoritarian, controlling interactions with our partners, penuriousness (with feelings), coldness, exploitation, unreasonable demands, etc. Most often these manifestations are motivated from an underlying fear.

There is only one unconscious fear: Fear of closeness. This is at the root of the neurotic character structure. The fear is that if we were to become closer with the intimate other, the other will relate by withdrawal, coldness, cruelty, anxiety, etc., as our original intimate others (parents) unconsciously did when we felt close to them. This was a consequence of their relationships with their own parents, and so on, along back through the generations of parents.

Just imagine how it is for a 3 year old or 4 year old whose whole existence depends on parents. As the parents begin to feel warmth, tenderness or other signs of closeness, an unpredictable and unexpected change occurs. They become anxious, withdraw, become tense or cold, do subtle cruel acts, or any of the myriad adult distortions of natural feeling concomitant with the neurotic structure (present in all human beings). This creates a terrible fear and anxiety in the child.

Reading this made me think a lot about the upbringing effects of a child. . . imagine the future children

Today he is worth a staggering $52.8 billion .
To put this inperspective, consider what can be done with that amount of money.

==>You could win Survivor 52,000 times and still not match up to his fortune

=>His wealth exceeds the annual budget of Russia

Did you guess it right? yes the

Perhaps, health? longevity? he could almost get most things that money can buy or in some ways using money to ‘motivate’ to achieve…

Learn some fun facts about Singapore! Did you know…

Singapore consists only of one main island and 63 other tiny islands. Most of these islands are uninhabited.

Singapore is among the 20 smallest countries in the world, with a total land area of only 682.7 square kilometres. The USA is about 15,000 times bigger.

Apart from Monaco, Singapore is the most densely populated country in the world, with 6,430 people per square kilometre.

Singapore became the 117th member of the United Nations on 21 September 1965.

Symbolism of the National Flag: Red symbolises universal brotherhood and equality of man while white signifies purity and virtue. The crescent moon represents a young nation on the rise and the five stars signify the ideals of democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality.

The national flower of Singapore, Vanda Miss Joaquim, was first discovered in 1893 by Agnes Joaquim, an Armenian. The orchid is a natural hybrid between V. teres and V. hookeriana.

The Merlion, a half-fish, half-lion beast, is a fitting symbol of Singapore. The "Singa" or lion represents the animal that a Sumatran prince saw which resembled a lion, and the fish is a tribute to Singapore’s history as "Temasek", the ancient sea town.

The world’s highest man-made waterfall, standing at 30 metres, is located at the Jurong BirdPark.
[it's only a man-made waterfall, so no big deal when compared to the natural ones...]

The largest fountain in the world is located in Singapore at Suntec City. Made of cast bronze, it cost an estimated US$6 million to build in 1997.
[Yes, some crazy people, bring empty containers or even those bottles from Mineral water which they've finished drinking to contain some 'fountain water' home]

The buildings of Suntec City have been built in the shape of a palm of a hand symbolising good "feng shui".

In 2003, Singapore’s Changi Airport won the award for "Best Airport Worldwide" for the 16th consecutive year from the UK/Europe edition of the Business Traveller magazine.

Tanzan and Ekido, two monks, were once traveling together down a muddy road. A heavy rain was still falling. Coming around a bend, they met a lovely girl in silk kimono and a sash, unable to cross at the intersection.

"Come on, girl," said Tarzan at once. Lifting her in his arms, he carried her over the mud.

Ekido did not speak again until that night when they reached a lodging temple. Then he no longer could restrain himself.

"We monks don’t go near females," he told Tarzan, "especially not young and lovely ones. It is dangerous. Why did you do that?"

"I left the girl there," said Tarzan.

{January 13, 2006}   :: The Sins of Daddy::

It is not that the homes of unself-disciplined children are lacking in parental discipline of a sort. More often than not these children are punished frequently and severely throughout their childhood.

But this discipline is meaningless. Because it is undisciplined discipline…

Parents are undisciplined role models for their children when they themselves are unself-dsciplined. These are “Do as I say, not as I do” parents.
Either they get drunk in front of their children or fight with each other in front of the children without restraint, dignity or rationality. They may be slovenly. They make promises they don’t keep. If their own lives are obviously in disorder and disarray, their attempts of EXPECTATIONS to the lives of their children seem therefore to make little sense to these children.

Does it make sense when (s)he’s told that (s)he must learn to control (her)his temper?

{January 12, 2006}   Self-Disciplined Children

Since we do not have the benefit of comparison when we are young, our parents are godlike figures to our childish eyes. When parents do things a certain way, it seems to the young child the way to do them, the way they should be done. If a child sees his parents day in and day out behaving with self-discipline, restraint, dignity and a capacity to order their own lives, then the child will come to feel in the deepest fibers of her being that this is the way to live.

Yet even more important than role modeling is love. For even in chaotic and disordered homes genuine love is occasionally present, and from such homes may come SELF-DISCIPLINED children. And not infrequently parents who send children into the world who are as undisciplined and destructive as any child from a chaotic home.

Ultimately love is everything. The mystery of love examined…

{January 11, 2006}   “Wanting Another Dish?”

”When we stop splashing around in the water of love, let go of our crazed hunger for approval and stop seeking our reflection in the eyes of our partner, We begin to discover who we truly are." [<...I found this!!....: )

In Zen, this self is also called the 'true man of no rank.' - it is the self that is not dependent upon approbation or external circumstances to feel whole and joyous.

In good and bad weather it goes its way UNCONCERNED!!
[!!well-said!! I like this ideology very very much...]

”WANTING ANOTHER DISH” has  been explained in the way that some relationships are a mixture of delight and despair – that which we love and that which we are allergic to.

Are we able to absorb what is useful and discard the rest? This requires the ability to discriminate to know who we are and what we need and who the other person is, what he is capable of giving. Because some parts of the person do not agree with our system, this does not mean that we cannot enjoy and appreciate the parts that do.

It is a mistake to expect all of our needs to be met by one person or in one relationship.
Honor and be grateful for that which you receive. [<.....That's what I've applied..]
Just don’t become bitter and spend all your time focusing on that which the person is not able to provide.

” Really look for me.
When you really look for me,
you will see me instantly.
 - KABIR”
LookForMe

When we really look for love we do not run back and forth between this person and that.
Instead, we go deeper and look at the nature of love itself. We look at our hunger and our desperation to be filled up. We look at the feeling that we can never be complete, and that there is someone out there who can make us WHOLE.

THIS VERY IMPORTANT finding i’ve made about FEAR from the book:-
Fear can have a life of its own.
It says that FEAR can confuse and diminish us or make us RUN IN CIRCLES, desperately trying to get away from that which we desire the most.

But the farther we run, the TIGHTER the fear holds in its grip.

Fear is bully.
As soon as you do not back off, it begins to tremble and move away. As soon as we look at the fear directly, it is exposed as the FAKE it is.
Our belief in the fear is what it power over us.<…….

Rather than believe in the power of fear, why not believe in the power of love? Choose which you would rather believe in.

{January 8, 2006}   An ‘Enlightening’ day

It was more than a ‘cultural exchange’ for me. This experience is beyond words that I can use to express (probably also due to my limitation in vocabulary ;) As I was thinking hard about this instruction given on a zen book – it says ‘DO NOTHING’. The original meaning is to sit in a certain posture until the bell rings. Even if a fly disturbs you when it fly passed your face, you mustn’t move. It was said that many will not even want to end ‘it’ when the bell rings. This is because it has changed you to the state when you will get the ‘enlightenment’. However, for me, I think I’ve ‘practice it’ in a different way.

What happened was I didn’t even realised that I had been using it as a way of solving some instant issues in my mind. So for the ‘book LEAD’, I had even THANK this friend whole heartedly! Really reeeaaaaallly, he’s a very wise and nice person (in search of the abstract mysteries of the universe). And it is through his query that I realise the ANSWERS to mine…..

Some experiences are simply, ineffable.

Thebook

There are too many discussions about love that makes me very curious about the various ‘ingredients’. I am not sure how many out there wouldn’t look forward to a love that expresses feelings spontaneously – the kind that welcomes affection and closeness yet takes care of other’s feelings when asked. I think it is very important to be in THE kind of love that invites growth in the partner. To me, that’s ultimate. The ‘bonus’ is when the love partner believes in equality and personal power in himself and me.

Thinking about this, I still haven’t have a chance to meet Ms.T, the galfriend whom I’m quite concerned about. It’s been a couple of months and she hasn’t ‘update’ her best friend about ‘her status’. I’m a little rattled about this not that it’s got to do with me but more becos’ I’m her friend. Cos I dun think she knows the difference between a healthy love and an ‘unhealthy’ one. My thoughts at this point is lucid. Instantly I know Love should allow for individuality and has an oneness as well as separateness from a partner. It’ll be best to bring out your partner’s best qualities too ;) But she is just too ‘unhappy’ for someone who has fallen in love.

To add, I think healthy love should also include:
• Experiences of openness to change/exploration
• Experiences of true intimacy through acceptance
• Able to honestly ask for what is wanted
• Able to find pleasure in giving and receiving
• Not trying to change/control partner
Dsc02409_2

Having said that, I would like to conclude my question of the week
:: How many seekers of ‘Healthy Love’ would agree one should not ask for unconditional love? ::

{January 6, 2006}   This fear of abandonment

It begins around the age of forty days old, as soon as the child is able to perceive itself to be an individual, separate from its parents. For with this perception of itself as an individual comes the realization that as an individual it is quite helpless, totally dependent and totally at the mercy of its parents for all forms of sustenance and means of survival. To the child, abandonment by its parents is the equivalent of death.

Most parents, even when they are otherwise relatively ignorant or callous, are instinctively sensitive to their children’s fear and will therefore, day in and day out, hundreds and thousands of times, offer their children needed reassurance: “You know Ma-ma and Pa-pa aren’t going to leave you behind”; “Of course Ma-ma and Pa-pa will come back to get you”; “Ma-ma and Pa-pa aren’t going to forget about you.” If these words are matched by deeds, month in and month out, year in and year out, by the time of adolescence the child will have lost the fear of abandonment and in its stead will have a deep inner feeling that the world is a safe place in which to be and protection will be there when it is needed. With this internal sense of the consistent safety of the world, such as child is free to delay gratification of one kind or another, secure in the knowledge that the opportunity for gratification, like home and parents, is always there, available when needed.

The sad truth is: many are not so fortunate. A substantial number of children actually are abandoned by their parents during childhood, by death, by desertion, by sheer NEGLIGENCE, or, by a simple lack of CARING. Others, while not abandoned in fact, fail to receive from their parents the reassurance that they will not be abandoned. There are some parents, for instance, who in their desire to enforce discipline as easily and quickly as possible, will actually use the threat of abandonment, overtly or subtly, to achieve this end. The message they give to their children is “If you don’t do exactly what I want you to do I won’t love you any more, and you can figure out for yourself what that might mean.” It means, of course, abandonment and death. These parents sacrifice love in their need for control and domination over their children, and their reward is children who are excessively FEARFUL of the future. So it is that these children, abandoned either psychologically or in actuality, enter adulthood lacking any deep sense that the world as dangerous and frightening, and they are not about to forsake any gratification or security in the future, since for them the future seems dubious indeed.

To develop the capacity to delay gratification, it is necessary for children to have self-disciplined role models, a sense of self-worth, and a degree of trust in the safety of their existence. These “possessions” are ideally acquired through the self-discipline and consistent, GENUINE CARING of their parents; they are the most precious gifts of themselves that mothers and fathers can bequeath. When these gifts have not been proffered by one’s parents, it is possible to acquire them from other sources, but in that case the process of their acquisition is invariably an UPHILL struggle, often of lifelong duration. THESE, all of these, had cast a profound impact on my spiritual life…

Some years ago, while I was doing my major in marketing, this ‘maze’ about Ego was essentially taught under the subject of psychology. I thought it was really profound. Abstract. Also insightful to learn its true and real meaning.

I’m not really sure whether anything has changed around the core of this. Up to this date at least. Some has define it as “being the organized conscious mediator between the internal person and the external reality.” Along the journey of my search, I chanced upon some strange ‘yelping’ people [pls see episode on 'Being buddies!' by faking it....if u haven't know what is it] and some ‘nicer’ stranger-friendsters. All makes me feel this start of the year 2006 with wonderment. I wonder why one of them tells me the romantic desires (even before he had really known me) – And then strangely just disappear. I wonder why some of them continue the wrong ‘channel’ despite knowing what should be the First Things First.

A Creative Director friend once told me this “The blog is like opening up ‘a can of worms’. Somehow I agree and also disagree. I believe the writings need not be super broken language like some ‘man’ said “Aiyah, i just a stupid man la….” or
“u know i dun read those big big word long long intro……….blar blar blar…),
neither will yelpings of self-pity on the lost of love are well define, afterall the message can be just as clear without the ‘yelp!’

I also wonder why there are so much more ‘bad materials’ on the blogs (there are a few good ones though ; p). I’m curious why dun people just finetune themselves to be more forward-looking, instead of wasting THEIR own time and resources?

This thing about Ego is fascinating. I read somewhere as it says it should be bruised badly (it sounded a bit weird initially, but later I realised that it is a very interesting approach to tell someone who is egoistic to be able to readjust themselves(without offending anybody). I dun know what you think about this. Strangely the feeling to seek the real meaning about ego, came to me really really strong – right from the very start

I really want to know the ‘Why’, the ‘How’ and the ‘What’ about Ego, ID and Superego. The search continues.

{January 2, 2006}   Being ‘Buddy’ by faking it

Someone with a fake identity, called himself “blackzjack” (of a hotmail account) started a chat on 1st Jan. Story casts are two army friends one name ‘Sam’ the other ‘Eric’ needing some ‘Internet friends’ and they are supposed to be making some friends at a Katong Cafe. Both are long timed pals since 1991. This fake, called Sam started to gain your sympathy by telling his sad encounter with one paunchy, roly-poly woman who scolded him fiercely on the New Year’s day. Miss Roly-Poly, upon receiving an SMS greeting by Mr.S, immediately replied saying “he is very annoying” in FULL CAPS.

I should have suspected something fishy about this. It was the usual ‘hi, who are u living with?’ ‘how many brothers sisters you have?’ ‘are they married’ kind of questioning. Then followed very quickly with the lame question of ‘Do you have a handphone number?”

BEWARE as what’s going on is Mr.E claimed to be Unable to Type, No PC knowledge, NO PC at home but looking for friends through the friendster network. With their humble background, no one would suspect these supposed to be down to earth people (Mr.S current occupation is a Transportation Driver) would resort to such tactics in the name of “Being ‘buddy’!”

{January 1, 2006}   Outgoing People can be shy too

I’ve heard of this several times: Love Changes Everything. Besides IT being a song by Climie Fisher, I think it’s “O so true!” that an outgoing person can strangely become introverted – after falling in and then out of love. A classic example I knew of was about a gal-friend who used to be quite outgoing but later became very shy. Now that she begins to understand how one of her schoolmates (a guy) who used to be very shy in class felt.

Love changes everything from the point someone falls in love. My friend, let’s call her Ms.T, fell in love recently and she has changed quite a fair bit. The : ( thing is she has fallen for a married man and that’s really a bad thing. Cos Mr.A claims that his ex-’wife’ simply won’t sign on the dotted line…and Ms.T is at a lost of what to say, what to do, how to better handle it – It has reached a level that has affected her friendship with one of her best friends and thus she also began to close up. At a lost.

Love changes everything right after the love is gone too. Better known as ‘Been LOVED, it changed everything!” When it dies, it seems the world turned around too. Reality REALLY bites! Who you used to love so passionately became so stale like never before. That could happen to men or women alike. However, some women can get so madly in love that she has forgotten she needs to breathe too. This type of woman tries to work things out but sadly it still need to be settled in the usual disappointing way- that is when love did not work out the way it supposed to be, it will eventually end just like any other.

Really hope that Ms.T will be back on track and that galfriend I’ve mentioned earlier will gain back her confidence. And then get back into the dating scene again. For those whose love has ended in a disappointing way, there’s bound to be a little emotional baggage, but back to a second note, life goes on…Be Positive and I believe you gonna meet that special half who has also been (frantically) searching for you too. Time will tell ;) and timing is the essence.

{December 31, 2005}   Refrigerated mistletoe

I dun really believe too much about the horoscope, but it says today that:

The Bottom Line::
Your pride will be challenged today — look on it as a lesson, not an embarrassment.

In Detail::
Anyone who’s known you for more than one evening — say the last one, for example — will most certainly vouch for your reputation as the undisputed life of the party — of any party. Of course, since you undoubtedly went all out to prove that to your audience until long after the midnight hour, you may be a bit tired. Yep, even you. Better squeeze in a powernap, though. A loved one has quite the New Year’s surprise waiting, and you’ll want to be conscious to enjoy it. (Hopefully, you refrigerated the mistletoe?)

so…i dunno abt the mistletoe thingy, jus hope i’m gonna have an exciting year ahead!

{December 31, 2005}   Zsolt

Met Zsolt. I tried to add him many times, he did too, but the system kept saying “failed”.
We both thought that it could be the system being overwhelmed with users on new year’s eve.
In any case his blog is really interesting (i personally think so):

In case u like his writing style too, he said he’s gonna be a writer sometime later. And he’s gonna publish a book. So the above is the link (in case i lose it : p

{December 31, 2005}   D’rawings

Catching the right mood is essentially important, at least it was so for me. Er….ok, are you thinking of something else? What I’m saying is the frame of mind one has when drawing an object in the distance. I didn’t know when I started to like drawing, doodling and sketching. Recently I bought my first sketch pad and began to work on some small animals like hen, hamster, cats (which Andy says it looked like a dog, haha!) I didn’t know the basic concepts about circles and triangles which are so fundamental in achieving the various angles to the small animals until I found an interesting book in the reference library.

The topmost righthand corner on the classified newspaper, featured a Golden Retriever. It caught my attention and from this day, I thought of trying out some coloured sketches. “How about bigger animals with more detailing like the horses or even the lion?” Then the shading techniques came into mind.
